“most surreal beautiful place on earth”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 8, 2010

This is the most spectacular scenery i've ever seen, and most people don't think my photos from this trip are real. The simple reflective landscape is breathtaking, i wish i spent more time there, and forced our guides to maybe stay for sunset on the watery plains. I agree with other posts, to research your hotels and tour companies, because they were pretty poor. Toilets did not flush in our hotels, and drivers were crazy - seat belts non-existent. But this review if for the Salt Flats themselves... the minimal landscape is indescribable.

“Brilliant!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 7, 2010

Take the three day tour! I went with Oasis Odyssey Tours. They were great! Filipe was our driver and he knows EVERYTHING there is to know and will tell you it all (hope you have a translator in the jeep!)

“Good luck with Tonito Tours”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 1, 2010

Just returned from a one week tour of Bolivia. We are presently living in Cochabamba so we made a trip to see the other parts of Bolivia. It was with great fear we booked with Tonito tours, via email, for a one day tour. There are many tour operators out there. Overall our day was fabulous. We tried for an English translator but none were available so we went with our bad spanish. Our driver/guide was excellant and the day was great, even down to the fantasitc chicken and pasta salad lunch at Inti Wasi island. I would humbly add one more positive review for Tonito tours. Overall, Uyuni is a huge tourist trap in Bolivia. Expect to generally pay more for less, compared to other parts of the country. We paid just under $50 USD per person for a jeep with just our family, lunch guide and "cook".

“A great experience... if you do it right!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 20, 2010

The panoramas and environments are truly breathtaking...the local commitment to quality service is not.

If you're ready for some adventure and some exertion, take a tour of the Gran Salar! Some advice:

-Take care when choosing your tour operator: many are infamous for shoddy equipment, poor food, cold lodgings, and overcrowding in the jeep (which will matter since the tours cover up to 1000 kilometers).

-Bring some useful things: pills to help your body against altitude sickness; polarized sunglasses; something warm to wear, and healthy snacks.

-Consider starting your tour in Tupiza instead of Uyuni: the itineraries and tour companies tend to be better from there.

Happy travels!

“Amazing”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 10, 2010

I spontaneously decided to come see this place starting from San Pedro the Atacama. It is amazing, never seen a place like this. Truly breathtaking. Not just the Salar but also all the other spots they bring you to. Bring good suncream with high factor as the sun hits you on the Salar, and don't be afraid chewing some coca - leafs, they really help you in case you suffer from light altitude sickness. But choose your Tour Operator with care.
