“A nice place to camp”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed November 12, 2013

Just recently I have been here. We were camping and pitchted up our tents on the soft lawn and under shady trees. The community area got hot water and sink for the dishes. A big fireplace is available as well. Firewood is provided at an extra charge. The view over Lake Mutirikwi is fabulous as well as the garden of the property. The rooms are very simple, just bed, shelf and a mirror but clean. The staff is friendly. It's close to Great Zimbabwe and Kyle Recreational Park, home to some White Rhinos.

Nothing have changed here in the past 20-30 years or maybe even longer. The rooms are very simple. The food is very english and not very good. The price is ok for what you get. Beautiful garden! Not too far from great zimbabwe.

This is the second time we have stayed, and little has changed. Lovely gardens with views, many sumptuous species and interesting corners to discover. Self-catering accommodation works well, and an unpretentious evening meal in a well-hosted environment was very welcome. The service was very good. I asked for a self-catering villa near to the main house, but we were sited 150 metres down the hill - OK unless you can't walk so well.

We were visiting Great Zimbabwe so this hotel was recommended - What a mistake! We arrived and were given a room with no view yet it appeared we were the only people staying there, ( room 6 )
Asked to move and told there were no twins free - not true room 7 was free and was a twin think they couldn't be bothered. Asked for some drinks, we were told the waiter wasn;t a round but she would do us a favour and get some for us but no Soda! We paid $150 for a double poor value, worth about $100 at the most. Has some great views and good gardens but didn't make up for a shabby room or poor service

After an entire 3 months of hard work on a project in Zimbabwe and barely a weekend of good rest, the project was completed right on time much to the delight of the team. So what could have been better than to take my support engineer Radu, to Great Zimbabwe, a place he had been wanting to visit so much, only on condition we completed the project in time. I had slept at Norma Jean before but when it was still the Inn on Great Zimbabwe, and wasn't sure of its current state. Ohh what an awesome weekend of rest and reflection under the beautiful stars and sounds of Cicadas, with a well lit bonfire, braai pork ribs and Colcom countrystyle boerswars!! All in a neat and clean self catering chalet! You have to be there to experience it. Only one thing they have to do! Add their Zimbabwe contact numbers on their website. The South African number is not answered after 5pm!

We stayed at Norma Jean's for 2 nights on our way around Zimbabwe and it was so relaxed and friendly and such good value that we stayed there a third night on our way back down to the South African border.

We chose the budget rooms and they were absolutely adequate, no frills, "what it says on the tin". We used the camp fire/braai area to cook outside and also ate at the restaurant.

Breakfast is a charm, served on the verandah overlooking the frankly sumptuous garden and the lake beyond. The food is standard Zimbabweans fare which is to say - expect to be fed well with hearty and wholesome food, meat and two veg, don't expect gourmet. The cook works hard with what is available to him.

Recommended to backpackers, road travelers, and anyone looking for accommodation near Great Zimbabwe who doesn't require a high end hotel. Absolute must for any avid gardeners.

Four friends stayed in a self catering Lodge at Norma Jean for 2 nights, what a treat. The lodge was spacious (every one got there own room - which was treat after sharing space for 3 weeks). The gardens are magical and you can feel this place is loved. the staff were friendly, helpful and the food excellent. Each lodge has a lovely view of the lake and next time I would like to spend a week there, just soaking in the quiet peaceful atmosphere. The main hotel has spacious room with comfortable chairs and there is an overall atmosphere of calm beauty. Zimbabwe is a truly lovely country to visit and Norma Jean's establishment makes that possible.

Room Tip: Decide if you want to cater for yourself, or be pampered!
