“Great stop in Bots!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 15, 2012

My group of eight stayed two nights at Elephant Sands. Once on the way to Zambia, and one on the way back. What a great time! Roan and company were very helpful and willing to accommodate our large group with relatively little notice.

As soon as we got to the lodge, 5-6 elephant strolled up to the watering hole and began drinking. On our way back, there was literally elephants at the whole from two in the afternoon until we went to bad at midnight. We even got to see them fight with a Kudu over the watering hole. Showers took a while to warm up and were a bit spotty, but they worked if you needed them. Food was excellent, and you couldn't beat the atmosphere. Would definitely recommend a stay here. Make sure you drive up during the day time! Was a pretty hairy drive coming up from Francistown in the dark.

Room Tip: If you're with friends, split the family chalet if it's available. Plenty of room for four p...

We stayed over at Elephant Sands on 1 May 2012. The accommodation was ok and nothing to complained about. However, the flood lightes at the waterhole did not worked and we had to made food in the dark. One can understand that something were wrong with the flood lightes, but they could at least told us before the time that it was not working. I asked the lady at the front desk, Inge for wood and she advised me that it cost 15 Pula. After an hour not receiving the wood, I asked a guy called Ruan for wood and he said that he will organized it and that it will cost me 50 Pula. The owner of the place, I think his name is Ben was also at the bar and he did not even made an effort to just come and greet us. There were two other couples at the bar at that time. Thus a nul for hospitality and I can not recommend Elephant Sands.

We camped at Elephant Sands for 1 night as a part of an overlanding tour. Camping ground were clean and Wi Fi was available with a reasonable connection.

At night around the camp fire we saw a pack of wild dogs which was an amazing experience and later the evening we got up close with four elephants which was just as magical.

Unfortunately I cannot say the same for our game drive. The 4wd were poorly kept and we continually broke down. When we finally got the 4wd going again (thanks to the guide from our overlanding trip) the guide from elephant sands drove at high speeds back to the camp so we wouldn’t break down again. This meant we had no opportunity to look for game and also seeing there are no seatbelts the drive back was rather scary bouncing around the back and some people hitting their heads on the metal poles! And to finish the drive there was no apology.

We stayed one night here, the place was recomended by the camper rental company. half way through supper an elephant casually styrolled through the site and hung out at the water hole, then about an hour later another came through.
Was a truly magical experience on our 3rd night in Africa and really hammered home that we were in the wild. The manager couldn't have been more accomodating and the inexpensive food was great...ceryainly better than messing with a camp stove. Would certainly stay here again and would recomend it highly.
As with most camsites, the washing facilities were basic, but were functional.

We were really excited about staying here as we were told one of the highlights was that the elephants can and do just stroll through amongst the huts you stay in. WELL? they probably were scared away by the INSANE amount of noise from the kids in the pool until like 11 pm and the adults whooping it up at the bar. It was almost like being at a rugby match, the noise! The watering hole is directly ahead of the bar area. Sure I can appreciate people are there for their vacations as well, but when the hype around staying here was to have elephants stroll through the grounds??? I guess the profits from a handful of people drinking at the bar out weighed the revenue generated by the people camping there and staying in the huts, who had come to sit by a watering hole and see ELEPHANTS?!?! Novel concept heh, given the name of the place! Management really didn't seem to give a flys **** about the noise. Rooms were ok, and yes the water was salty, but we were warned about this, shower quickly or do a sponge bath. Food was ok dinner at night was filling buffet, breakfast service was so so. In the end we did have two elephants stroll by our hut at around 1 am after the generator was turned off around 11:45 and the loud people finally left the bar area around 12:15, I guess the candle given to them by the bar must have finished by then. Would I stay here again? probably not, we ended up seeing more Elephants walking along side the highways.

No action but for one ellie at the waterhole. The road starting 50 KM
out of Kasane was a nightmare. Craters on the moon are smaller.
The food was horrible, The room simple, but clean - very cold - no heat
