“Great location, not so great service”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 14, 2012

Although this is not the best hotel in Caracas, nor the best bang for your money, it's location and good food make this hotel a great option if you want to move around by yourself and get to know Altamira / La Castellana, Las Mercedes and other interesting areas that are nearby.

Caracas is not the most safe city right now, so a hotel like this is great, since you can do your dinner or just have a couple of drinks, the bar is very nice and nice choice of drinks, high class bar.

It is a bit expensive, but great service, rooms are heaven, confortable beds, no need to go out to have dinner and I do not recomend to.

Make your reservations with time, is hard to get hotels in Caracas

I stayed here the last few nights and it is an elegant hotel with a quiet -- hard to come by anyplace in Caracas -- and soothing ambiance. However, what I really enjoyed was the right-sized (and quality) customer service. If you're like me, and not that I'm anti-social, but you can do without the employees jumping into your path to embark on a greeting and turn it into 5 minutes of pleasantries, then this is the place to stay.

I stayed at this hotel for 4 nights recently. I think it used to be an old Four Seasons. The lobby and rooms are in good condition (I was on the 15th floor). All the heads of the various areas (front desk, valet, dining) spoke english but many of the staff did not. The restaurant food was good although the prices were a little high if using the "official" exchange rate.

My biggest complaint is the frequent power outages. One night we lost power from 4:00pm - 10:00pm. There is no emergency lighting in most stairwells. Room service was shut down and considering security issues in Caracas, walking out to dinner is not recommended nor is it recommended to try to get a cab from the street to return to the hotel from dinner. Many guests (including me) complained to management about the hotel's closing of the restaurant and bar. I felt that the hotel should have at least served snacks and bottled water to those foreigners who were literally prisoners in the hotel. Despite management agreeing that those would be good things to do, they did nothing. They did not even provide any room discounts. There is a great pool with palm trees and a courtyard on the 9th floor.

I stayed at this hotel about 2 years ago, and I had items stolen from my car during the Valet Parking. The Hotel never recognized this as they could not see the "crime" on their surveillance tapes - of course they would not see it as the valet driver stole while in the car.

I have stayed at the hotel several nights over the last weeks. This week I had planned to stay 6 nights, but after the third night and my car was returned with big scratches for the second time - the first time I let it slide as it was only a 5 cm scratch. Today the scratches were deep and completely peeled the paint job.

Dispite the fact that the hotel parking are the only one that could have made the scratches since I had no access to the car while in the valet service. The workers are very rude, and no attempt was made to make the situation better - only "it will be investigated" was the most I could get out of the manager.

I checked out immediately and this time I will never return.

If this hotel costed like $90 it would be fair, but it cost $300. It is way, way overpriced like everything in Venezuela.because of the exchange rate they use for turists. For a $90 hotel it is nice, the rooms are good and very clean. The staff is very mixed, some are very good and some are very little serviceminded. The breakfast is fair, both local and international food. All in all find a better hotel or even better, find a other country where you will get way more value for your money. Furthermore the country is getting more and more unsafe and you will really need to care each moment.

I stayed recently at the Caracas Palace, located in the trendy Plaza Altamira. Because of inflation and exchange rate restrictions, Hotels are very expensive in Venezuela. I was told the Caracas Palace offered slightly better prices than its competitors (Marriott, etc).

Although the Palace charged me approx US$320/night, the service really does not justify that price. The hotel makes me think of hotels during the Soviet era. The building is very clean and impressive, but cold and empty. The reception lacks interest (except one more energetic lady) on customer srvice. food is ok, but nothing special. There is no information about anything. I sense the hotel managers do not really care about marketing and promoting the city, Venezuela tourism or even their own hotel.

The reception also wanted to charge me an entire night just because I showed a couple of ours earlier than the checking-in period. Even though the room was available already, and I had travelled all night, I was tired and looking forward to a shower. I waited the two hours.

A disappointing experience in a city where choices are becoming harder to find as prices continue to go up.
