“Great option for this city, but not great overall”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed May 31, 2007

The Caracas Hilton is safe and secure option in a fairly dangerous city. It's definitely more oriented for business travelers. I'm a single traveler, stayed there in early April 2007.
If you're on a stopover in Caracas before going to other parts of the country, do not stay in downtown Caracas unless you actually need to spend time in the city! Otherwise it's a $50+ cab ride each way to the airport, about 45-50 minutes away in good traffic.

Hotel staff is courteous but not willing to help. They even told me a cab to a place about 5 minutes driving away would be $20, whereas the cab driver himself asked only for $5.
The "guest services" desk is a misnomer, they're no help
Rooms are decent. Bed was hard but not unbearable. Bland decorations. Bathroom needed some work and updating.

Among the luxury hotels in Caracas, this is the best if you don't have your own transport - it's located right next to a Metro station. It's also relatively cheap, at hilton.com I had no trouble getting a double for USD 120 in December, which is supposed to be the high season. The Intercontinental and others are more like USD 200. The building and rooms have a sort of faded 70's charm to them. The pool is OK, though the massive apartment buildings across the street - sometimes blocking the sun - are eye-sores. Breakfast is great, a buffet with one indoor, sort of air-conditioned section and one semi-outdoor section where you can smoke. The area around the hotel seems a bit seedy and deserted at night but is fine by day. At the time of writing they seem to be building something rather major on the next block, dunno what it is or if it'll change the mood of the area.

This rooms in the hotel are dated and expensive. The hotel is located in a criminal part of Caracas and the service in the lobby is unfriendly and even rude. Luggage is being neglected or ignored, securitystaff is unfriendly and is bothering guests and visitors with futile details etc. etc. If you can pay the rates of this hotel, go somewhere else it can only be better...

I stayed in the Hilton Caracas for 7 nights. It was my second visit to Caracas and it was much better than the first. I personally wouldn't consider Caracas in my vacation plans. Anywhere in the Andes like Merida or the resort areas on the coast would be a better and safer bet. As others have noted, the area in which the hotel is located is not particularily safe so if you are not accustomed to travel in Latin America, beware. When we asked the concierge to suggest a restaurant the night we arrived (very late) he told us not to go out as it was not safe although we did venture out most evenings before dark and didn't have any issues. There are several restaurants, a grocery store, theatre and subway station within a couple of blocks from the hotel.

The Hotel is nice, the lobby, restaurants, bar and pool area are all well kept and the staff are very courteous. Most staff speak english very well. The rooms are bit run down; dirty carpet, old TV's and old furniture, but they are clean. The conference facilities are excellent with the exception of the internet access. If you can afford it, stay on the business floors which will give you access to the business lounge which is fantastic; free drinks, appetizers, coffee, deserts, internet and really amazing view of the city.

You may well be looking for a well known brand in Caracas - it is not the safest of cities after all. And the Hilton certainly delivers the brand and a feeling of saftey within its walls. The rooms are OK, if a bit dated, but the service is pretty poor and most of the facilities were not open when I was staying (shops, 2 of the restaurants, health club, internet, airline check-in). For the price, am sure there are better deals to be had - and be careful of the hotel taxi service - remember that conning tourists is all but a national sport in Venezuela.

I stayed at the Hilton Caracas for about 4 days, after switching hotels due to the Embassy Suties having a probelm with their AC. First thing is that the Area around the hotel isn´t the most beautiful area nor safest, so tourist use extreme caution in and aorund the hotel. The lobby is very nice and area around it is very beautiful but once you go up the elevators every thing looks bleek and almost dead. If you have seen the movie ´The Grudge´ you feel like you are in it. No colors just gray walls. The rooms are a nice and comfortable size, but again feel like you are in japan. The resturants in the hotle are SUPERB great food and prices that are not so high. The pool is nice and you can purchas airline tickets in the bussiness area of the hotel. Hotel staff can speak fluent english and were very helpful. Taxis that run for the hotel are very fast and very safe. It is located directly across the street from the Cultural building that has constant plays and orchestras, very nice for those whoe love theatre. Nice stay overall, only had a few problems with the room key and had to change rooms, and with a man beggin for money while we ate breakfast in one of the hotel´s resturants. Othewise nice stay, and the pillows are wonderful and the AC works amazingly!
