Thie Pestana is the new shiny and 'in' hotel in Caracas; this doesn't make everything great - especially where service is concerned.
Arrival:
No Bellboy on arrival so had to carry cases up steps into reception. Very trendy foyer - nice design touches. Staff a bit uninterested in working very hard - they prefer to chat with colleagues.
Rooms:
The rooms are clean but a bit basic; cheap laminate flooring doesn't make for a luxury feel - but it's OK. Nice comfortable beds with quality bedding. TV as expected - LCD. No alarm clock in room - odd! Bathroom equally clean and smart. The rooms, whilst OK, lack 5 star sophistication - more 4 star.
Rooftop Pool:
FREEZING COLD water - unheated pool - not very nice. A bit chaotic with really dreadful service. We ordered food but it took ages to turn up on every occasion. You have to beg for service. It's a pity.
Restaurant:
Breakfast very good (home made Crossaints the best I had EVER had out of France!). Dinner a bit without ambience.
Location:
In a smartish residential area (very few restaurants around) but metro station at bottom of street. Felt safe - or as safe as you can be in Caracas. Massive supermarket opposite hotel. Hotel (expensive) taxi's plentiful.
