“Honeymoon Destination!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 10, 2006

We honeymooned after much Fiji research and it paid off. We loved it. It took us awhile to get there. A 3 hr. flight to LAX, a layover, a 10.5 hr. flight to Nadi, a 2.5 hr. van ride to Pacific Harbor, and then our journey ended with a 45 minute boat trip to Beqa (Bengah) Island. The island and the ocean was goregous. The resort is small and intimate set right off of the shore. It is small, 7 cabins in total. The owner was nice. The dive instructor was nice to talk too though we did not dive. But you can get certified at Lalati if you would like too. We went kayaking and snorkeling. It was so gorgeous. There are so many fish! I had no idea. We did the honeymoon package with included a trip to Storm island which did have the white sandy beaches. The picnic lunch and snorkeling out there was our favorite part of the trip. We saw some firewalking, drank Kava, and had a traditional Fijian meal cooked in the groud. The food was great. We had steak, tuna, and chicken for dinner and things like pizza and pasta for lunch. Breakfast had options but mostly between egg dishes and pancakes. Though the fruit and homemade bread was delish! The accomidations were nice. We booked late and stayed up on the hillside which had a spectacular view of the ocean. It is not too far from everyone. The money we "saved" we used in the spa. I had a papaya wrap, deep hair conditioning, massages, hot stome massages...... all most everything to be honest and my honey had a couple of massages. They were great. The exchange there is awesome. if you spend 1000 Fijian you only spend 600 american dollars. We drank drinks around the nice pool and bought bottles of wine with our meals most every day and did not spend that. The exotic drinks were 12 fijian, the beer was 5 fijian, and the wine was like 7 a glass or 25 a bottle. There was free water in the room and a mini bar with the same prices. We used our sunscreen and bugspray though it was not too bad. I highly recommend it. You can dine on the table with everyone or get your own table. I liked visiting with the other honeymooners personally. Everyone we met was so nice! Overall we really enjoyed it.

Just returned from Lalati. I must say, the resort is a fabulous honeymoon or romantic destination. The bures are clean and spacious. The meals are excellent. The resort is clean, secluded, quiet, and very nice. The spa is great. The owner, Jane is very nice and the dive instructor Jay is cool. Jane goes out of her way to make sure all guests have a great time. The water is nice and the snorkeling is outstanding. There are a lot of fun activities to do like kayak, jungle hikes, and village tours. Also, there's a really cool tiny island nearby called 'Storm Island'. We spent a day on the island snorkeling. It was awesome.

My only complaint would be that there is really no beach area located at the resort. A quick kayak or boat ride can get you to nearby beaches, but there is none located on the resort property. It's ok because for once I didn't get any sand in my coinslot.

Also, if you're looking for nightlife, this isn't the place to go. The resort is located on a secluded island. There are a couple of villages nearby, but you cannot go to the villages unless escorted by a local guide. So if you're looking to experience local shopping or 'dining out' this isn't the place.

Overall I loved Lalati and would go back if I had the chance.

Lalati was perfect. Gourmet food at all meals, beautiful setting, a wonderful wonderful staff, and just enough to do to keep us entertained for a week. Their biggest asset is the staff - most have been working there for years and you really belive they care about the quality of your stay - if you even mention that you are thinking of doing one of the activities (diving, snorkel, village tour, spa treatment, kayak, ect), everything gets set up for you. Its small enough (only has 7 bures) that the service is superb. You can be social with the other guests, or stay on your own (meals can be at your bure, at a private table, or with group). From the time you get off the plane in Nandi, till your get back to the airport, Lalati really takes great care of you. This is definately a great honeymoon destination!

We have just returned from 11 days in Fiji for our honeymoon and 7 of the days were spent at Lalati. It is a little pricier than some other places BUT IT IS WORTH EVERY PENNY!!!

We stayed in one of the beach bures that were very large in size - had 2 bedrooms, bathroom and large porch with a hammock. If you are a person that is tied to tv or phones then Lalati is not for you.

There are so many outdoor activities to choose from - kayaking, snorkeling, diving, wakeboarding/waterskiing, hiking, getting spa treatments and laying in the hammock. For the surfers, Friggates is a relatively close boat ride away, and Lalati is a great place to come to because my husband was able to surf while I enjoyed the spa. The girls in the spa give wonderful massages and the costs are extremely cheap compared to what they are in the states...definitely try the tandem massage. The other couples that were there during our stay were all on their honeymoon and Lalati is a wonderful place to decompress after months of planning a wedding.

There are so many things that makes Lalati amazing - the scenery, weather, but most of all are the people and the food. We spent 2 nights on Matamonoa and the people were rude and the food was like cafeteria food. All we kept saying is "this sure ain't Lalati". The staff is wonderfully attentive, caring and friendly. The service here is top notch. As soon as you arrive you fill out a form asking about any food allergies. I wrote down that I don't eat mayonnaise and for all of my meals they brought me a version of the meal without mayo. I wrote it down within the first 10 minutes of arriving and never again did they ask, nor did I have to mention it all - you do not find that type of personal service and attention to detail in too many places. And speaking of food - Beato and his staff server up gourmet meals day after day. The food is by far the best food I have ever had anywhere! Make sure to try the Mojito...Viva makes the best mojito you will every have.

If you are interested in seeing Fijian traditions up close go to Lalati. We experienced the food and dance and drink of the native Fijians and it was so authentic and real - not a pre-organized production like what we saw at Matamona.

The only down-side I'd say about Lalati is that the beach in front of the bures is not one of the white sand, lay around beach you may want. It is a lot rockier and doesn't allow for just hanging out in the water due to the reefs. There is a beach across the way you can kayak too, as well as Storm Island. So even though the white sand beach isn't right out front your bure there are alternatives close by.

Overall my husband and I highly recommend Lalati. We can not give the resort and people enough praise. I was truly an amazing place, and we would go back at the drop of a hat!!!

Just finished an incredible stay at Lalati Resort on Beqa Island. The resort meets all expectations of a Southsea's paradise then takes it a step further. The individual bures are very large and well appointed with a large bedroom/sitting area and a smaller bedroom to the side. Early mornings were spent watching the sunrise over the bay in the privacy of our beautiful wrap around porch. The spa was incredable, listening to the sounds of the jungle while Melica massaged away what ever concerns there could possibly be in paradise. The food was 5 star. My favorite dessert being the chocolate mouse tower. Snorkling just off the dock in "Jane's Lane" was breathtaking. Close by boat dives was paradise found, a dive of a lifetime. The beauty of the resort can only be surpassed by the kindness and service of the staff. I will long remember and cherish the sounds of the Fijian singing to us as we left, that and there constant laughter. I look forward to returning to paradise very soon.

We chose this resort as a place to relax and unwind after a hectic month of touring this place seemed perfect. The rooms were beautifully presented and as there is a second bedroom in each individual bure, it would be ideal for a couple with a child, although in saying that, you would be pushed to find ways of keeping your child entertained. The resort has done its best to be environmentally friendly and credit must be given for that.

If you are a beach lover you will be disappointed that there really isn't one. The jacuzzi was not in operation throughout our stay and the swimming pool was too small. However we did enjoy a couple of yoga sessions. The TV room was great in the evenings to watch videos however this is about as eventful as it got!

Our main gripe with the resort was the way that meal times is organised. Breakfast, lunch and dinner occurs at set times during the day and you are called to the main eating area by the sound of a loud bell. There was a feeling of being back at school as meal times were so regimented. After a couple of days we realised that the same meals kept being produced at lunch and dinner times and there was also no option in what to eat. The resort sells itself on home cooking however after a week of nothing but pizza, chicken and pasta you had to wonder if the 'chef' was intent on giving everyone indigestion!

As we were on honeymoon, we wanted intimate meal times, however there was constant feeling that we were being bullied into sharing our meal times with other fellow guests by the resort owner.

Overall, we left feeling that although the location and accommodation is nice, the management and structure of meal times, and a general lack of activies made us grateful to be moving on to somewhere else. In fact we reduced our 10 night stay down to 6 and found a lovely resort on the main island. This resort is expensive considering it offers very little amenities for guests.

We spent 8 lovely days in Lalati resort on our honeymoon. At first, I was hesitant to book because there were so few reviews listed (although the ones listed were great). It was pure bliss. The setting was everything we imagined of Fiji - swaying palm trees, beautiful coral reefs just 30 feet from our bungalow, hammock on the porch, and an immaculate & very spacious room. The food was as good as any 5-star resort I've been to in the states. What really put this place over the top was the top notch service we received - every detail was attended to with a smile. The owners and Staff are so wonderful and friendly that we felt like old friends when we left. I actually cried as everyone sang and played guitar for us while our boat was leaving the island. Now, our goal is to save our $$ as fast as we can to get back to see our friends at Lalati soon. It is relaxation, beauty, and food at its finest.
