After a two hour private van drive and a private 40 minute boat ride you realize why you put yourself through so much travel time to get to Lalati. It is a very small resort, not really suitable for children. There are only 7 Bungalows. They are huge with 2 bedrooms and large covered porch. The food is outstanding Beato, the chef, is a native Fijian, but you would never know, by all the different foods he prepares. We were never disappointed, each meal was better then the one before. The owners Jane and Clint eat their meals with the guests and you can choose to sit alone or at the common table with the rest of the resort guests. We never ate alone. It was so much fun, meeting new people. There were only 12 of us at the resort at the time we were there. The spa is just a 2 room spa capable of massage by Filo, who is a native Fijian who has been trained in massage, wraps and facials. All the staff is amazing. From the gardner Pita who came running after us one day with 2 umbrellas when we got caught in a rain storm. To generator Joe (he takes care of the generator) who just makes you laugh. There is not much to do here. Scuba diving is big. My husband and I did not do much more then sit by the pool, read and go to the spa. The Beach is really not that great. During low tide you can walk it, other wise they have trails alongside it in the woods. They have many cultural events planned during the week so you get a feel for the Fijian culture. Overall Lalati is a place that has it all for the person who enjoys a small intimate resort, with great food, and amazing service, where they all know your name. It is not for the person who needs all the bells and whistles of a 5 star resort who needs to be waited on hand and foot at every moment. They do take care of you here, but they also give you your space. It is definelty worth the trip. I cried when I left, the staff was standing on the beach playing guitar and singing to us as our boat drove off. I can't wait to go back!!! You can e-mail me any questions.
