“Traditional Ceremonial Site”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 3, 2013

One of the few places not dominated by Moai on the Island this spot atop one of the four extinct vocanos of the Island was the traditional sport wher the Island Chief was selected by daring feats in the nearby ocean.
Some of the stone cermonial houses have been restored to give an example of the original look-- but most impressive to me is the view of the Crateer with its water-filled base, and a great view of the ocean.

“Nice walk and great views!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 22, 2013

From the city centre you can walk behind the Airport and follow a trail that takes you up Orongo. Give yourself a few hours to get up, wander around, and head back down again. Once at the top the crater is very awesome! Great views, and a nice place to sit and have some lunch (pack your own as there are no shops!). From the crater you walk another 15 minutes or so to the information centre where you can read some of the history of the area. Apparently you are supposed to show your national park ticket here, however I wasn't ask for it-both times I went up. Do the walk on a nice clear day cause you can see out over most of the island at some points during the walk! Nice way to spend a morning/afternoon!

“A little bit of history”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 22, 2013

Most of the island is desolate and it's hard to imagine what was there. Orongo gives the visitor a brief glimpse into the history of this unusual culture.

“Visit the Ceremonial Center”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 18, 2013

If you come to Easter Island, you most likely have an interest in the history and anthropology of the people who lived here. This National Park site was the location of ceremonies during the time of the "Bird Man" phase of island religion. Beautiful in its setting and views, you should come with a Rapa Nui guide who can explain what the structures and ruins were and what they were used for.

“Like everywhere else, this is lovely”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 17, 2013

There's nowhere on the island that isn't worth looking at. Everything that's available to look at is worth the look, this is no different.
