“One of the most facinating places i have been so far”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 18, 2013

There are many interesting sites in the park and even though its possible to see all major sites in two days i would take a bit more time and enjoy it. Take a tour at the beginning to get some information but i would also recommend to rent a bike or jeep (depending on how much exercise you want to have) to expore less visited sites and go on your own pace. In general you can reach any point of the island and return within a day by bike without rushing...I rented a motorbike for 1 day and a bike for 2 days at Insular Rental and can only recommend it. Good equipment and very friendly and helpfull stuff. In other places you have to be careful because of scams. Here i had a flat tire and they didnt want to charge me for it...
Another hint: You need the national park ticket only for two sites: Orongu and Rano Raraku. You are only allowed to visit each site once with the ticket even though it is valid for five days.

“I can't get enough of Moais”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 15, 2013

It is most marvellous to see such historical artifacts still half buried in earth in their "natural habitat", instead of a museum somewhere. Sure, this is partly due to the fact that there is not enough facility to preserve these thousand-year-old wonders, but its spectacular surroundings adds a great deal to the charm -- these Moais are charming. They seem to have such an innocent expression and an attitude all to itself. Unforgettable experience!!

“So worth the long trip to get here”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 8, 2013

I was sceptical but it is a truly fascinating place to visit. Do leave 3-4 days to get round otherwise you will be just doing it for the photo opportunity. You should take your time and soak up the magic and history.

Our guide, Paul from Tekareva really made it for us so do look him up.

Buy your park tickets at the airport as the park office is often closed and you can no longer buy tickets at the gate of some sites.

“Easter Island/Rapa Nui Tour”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 7, 2013

Had a private tour with a local guide, Christophe Conwry ,( Rapa Nui Tour ) who was recommended to us as the best guide on the island. Have to agree. He was a true knowledgeable professional who took pride in sharing his knowledge of the island history.

“Rapa Nui - the name sends shivers down my spine”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 30, 2013

The entire island is the Rapa Nui National Park and you can buy your ticket at the airport. Check though as our trip company had pre paid ours.

If you want a stamp in your passport then you have to go to the Post office in Hanga Roa which we discovered too late! there is no passport control in the airport either in or out.

There are many sites within the National park and you will need a car to get to them or take trips organised by the tour companies. Some you will find tricky to find by yourself as they are not well labelled and some of the roads are pretty poor and not tarred.

The Moai are fabulous and well worth seeing but the island is remote and flights go only from Santiago in Chile or Tahiti. the island is the most remote inhabited island and is about 2000 miles off the coast of Chile so this is not a cheap place to get to.

The statues are in various stages of disrepair and some have been restored onto their former ahu platforms but most are just lying around.

My favourite place was the former quarry with hundreds of these Moai lying around and was most photographic. You can see the largest Moai not complete and one huge one still partly attached to the rock it is being carved from.
