“The Scottage was paradise by the water!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 28, 2011

Wow! What a pleasant surprize when we pulled up to The Scottage. The Scottage was clean both inside and out. The deck had a great view of the lake ... made even better when you were enjoying it from the hot tub! Our dogs loved the water and would run out the front door first thing in the morning to splash around and get in a swim. The cottage was located on a corner lot and thus only had one neighbour ... which was an empty building lot when we visited. It is located in Falls Lake Resort which is just in the beginning stages of development. It looks like it'll be a small sub-division in another year or two.

The interior was very nice, In addition to the usual fridge, stove and microwave there was a dishwasher, a jacuzzi bathtub, chilled bottled water dispenser and a big screen television. And it also had air conditioning which we made use of a few times during our stay.

There was also a canoe for our use. Although we didn't use it there was also a trampoline. There were plenty of board games for kids ... which we found just as entertaining for us!

We found we could explore the southern part of Nova Scotia easily from this location ... although we always had a strong desire to just sit on the deck and enjoy the Scottage life. We hit Peggy's Cove, Halifax, Wolfville and the Bay of Fundy ... as well as many of the wineries in the area ... and there are LOTS! We also spent some time at Daniels U-Pick Orchard about 15 minutes from the Scottage and came home with several bags of fresh apples and even a bag of pears.

Best experience ... sitting in the hot tub in the evening listening to the loons call and watching the star-filled sky.

No real complaints. We did find the futon fold-out bed a bit hard on the back but I suppose it would be fine for those that like an extra firm mattress.

We would definitely stay here again!

My family of four stayed at a lakefront cottage during the July long weekend. The cottage was a new build right on Falls Lake, on Loon Drive. It was very clean, well appointed, and homey feeling. Like another poster, we spent most of the day out on the canoe, discovering nature. We would definitely stay again!!!!

2 of 5 stars Reviewed April 11, 2011

We visited a three bedroom cottage and really concluded that these folks just don't care! We were first informed that we would be charged the full base rate of $159 if we cancelled with less than 7 day's notice. This for a cottage that shows no bookings for the next 2 months. we were also told that we would have to gring our own wood if we wnted a fire...

We were charged $15 for every person or pet over two, which would seem strange for a 3 bedroom cottage, but we accepted this and the notice requirement.

Upon arrival we were instructed to pack our linen in the provided laundry bag to be returned when we leave and that they hoped there would be enough propane for the BBQ... This should have been our first clue, but by now we've paid...

Upon arriving at the cottage we find the yard littered with beer bottles, liquor bottles, a broken wine glass, hundreds of cigarette butts, half burned logs, and broken CD's. Great with the dog that we paid $15 for.

After spending over a half hour trying to clean this up before we had a cut paw, we went inside to find a reasonably nice and clean cottage. There were many of the normal items in a cottage, but just the minimum for a unit of this size. There was a microwave but not a dish that one could cook anything in it save on a plate. The only big disappointment inside was the beds which were just pallets of 2 x 4's with foam on them and the thinnest pillows and lowest quality linens possible.

We then discovered the broken wine glass on the deck and this was the last straw, so we called over to express our concern. The fellow who answered was apologetic and did come over within the hour to "clean up" - This consisted of bagging the items that we'd gathered, but at least he responded.

This place has wonderful potential and, aside from the yard mess, beds, broken doorstep (that we repaired) and lack of apparent maintenance could be a lovely spot. It's really too bad, but it's hard to believe that an operator would not visit their cottage in advance to ensure that things like propane, general repair and safety would be taken care of. Unfortunately, this expereince has left us feeling ripped off and needing to warn others in advance!

We recently stayed at one of their lake access cottages and found it to be very clean. There were clean sheets and towels. The dishes were old and of varied patterns but they were clean. They had a recyle area for the seperation of our garbage and containers. The BBQ worked OK and the view was spectacular.

1 of 5 stars Reviewed August 22, 2008

In August 2008, a group met for our yearly friend/family reunion. We reserved an EXECUTIVE DELUXE Cottage at Cottage Country, NS. It looked very nice as we drove up, but boy were we dissapointed after stepping inside. A male member of our party went to use the washroom upon entering cottage and came out inquiring if the cottage was actually ready for us, as there was urine on the toilet seat, so he didn't think it had been cleaned yet. So we all stopped unloading our vechicles and starting looking around. There was a bath mat stuck down in other bathroom tub, and upon lifting, found water and hair. The stairs and upstairs rooms were not swept. There was dust over registers, window ledges were dusty and some full of dead flys. The window in dining room to look on to deck was full of grease, from bbq being next to it outside. ( The bbq , which was originally a nice one and deck furniture- just horrid)The kitchen counter was sticky in places and coffee table had smeared coffee rings all over.
As you can guess , I called the office , as I assumed it was not cleaned yet. They informed me it was, and that their new girl(of a month) was very thorough. They offered for no one to come see what we were seeing, they offered nothing to appease me, an upset guest! They were basically very rude and told me that's the cottage, take it or leave it and if I left I'd still have to pay for not cancelling within 48 hrs.
Of course having planned this vacation months prior, around that area and with others, what could we do. We went and bought some cleaning supplies (nothing there, not even some comet) and set to work - cleaning our deluxe cottage.
Other things that disappointed us about our LAKEFRONT EXECUTIVE DELUXE CHALET (as advertised) was that there were none of the usual hospitality or needed things we usually find when we stay in cottages. Such as a pkg of coffee or two, sugar, dishsoap, BBQ brush, dishwasher detergent(there was a dishwasher there) . And our deluxe cottage didn't have enough towels left for us to begin with and we threw two facecloths in garbage as they were stained(blood, it seemed) nor enough dishes in cupboard. the dishes were mismatched(which is fine) , chipped (not fine) but that there were only six of every thing is not fine in a cottage advertised to sleep up to thirteen, oh sorry let me be correct there were eight forks - two short of what our party of ten needed. LOL That's what we all decided we could do about our cottage from H*LL , That and try to forewarn as many other unsuspecting travelers as we could.

  • Liked — The Lake.
  • Disliked — Not clean and drab inside.
