“A bright start”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 15, 2013 via mobile

The reopened Nanty is bright and cheerful and the decor and ambiance are just the ticket country casual style a very good menus with daily specials served by attentive and engaging staff we both had mussels with lovely toasted garlic bread and thick cut chips washed down with very tasty soft drinks . Congratulations I'm sure it will be a great success .

“Glad thy're back.................”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 14, 2013

Many will remember the high reputation of The Cider Mill from years back, and maybe had been disappointed when it changed hands.

Well the 'old' crew are now back - just a couple of weeks ago apparently - and it's back on cracking form.

Food interesting, a bit different and several steps above the usual pub/restaurant fare and well worth a visit - definitely back on our 'to be repeated' list

Service and welcome [by proprietor] vey good - and not intrusive - just right.

Interesting to see a copy of the late and much missed Michael Winner's original glowing review - if it was good enough for him ..........what can us mere earthbound mortals add ?

“Good food service could be better”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 12, 2013

There were 4 of us eating. The menu choice was excellent. We did wait quite a while between starter and main course. But the main course was worth waiting for. The serving staff could be a little more attentive and knowledgeable but on the whole we will return.

“Great setting, good food, just missing something..”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 11, 2013

Used to visit here some years ago before young kids and fancied having a trip from Pencoed on a rare day off without the kids. The welcome was warm and the wood fire and smell in the bar was an great surprise. The menu was varied and reasonably priced, with some usual pub grub and more exotic choices too. The recommended draft beer was excellent, and there was a range of ciders on offer if that's your tipple (didn't partake on this occasion). Had a starter of mushroom layered pasta in a parmesan sauce, which was superb - would have had this for a main course happily!
The steak and ale pie was hearty and tasty and the gammon with pineapple was spot on. However, neither meals hit the spot as the dripping cooked chips were dry and not as nice as they looked, Also, the small jug of gravy with the pie wasn't that warm, so both issues left us feeling almost sated but just not quite
.
This is a great place with lots of fulfilled potential. It just needs to sharpen it's pencil a bit!

“Back to the future”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 7, 2013

Opened again just a week we popped in for lunch on an extremely busy Bank Holiday Monday to check out the new venture now operated by previous proprietors. A few understandable glitches re service for some customers but we had no complaints. The menu provides something for everyone with some out of the ordinary dishes as well as an interesting new grill menu and a good specials menu. All at great value using mostly local produce. Our grilled asparagus starters were delicious as were our mains of chicken and the home made steak burger platter. The wine list is extensive, interesting and great value. Pity we didn't have room for dessert! All the customers we spoke to had really enjoyed their meals and were extremely happy even though some had to wait a little for their meals.
