“We go for the food not hospitality”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed August 10, 2013

If you were reviewing the setting it's 5*. The food would certainly be +4*. Then there is the service. Staff generally friendly but the owners are seriously grumpy. Dined here a least 6 times this year and can't fault the food at all. Reasonably priced and true home cooked pub grub - but don't be surprised if you don't get a warm welcome.

“A bridge too far”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed August 4, 2013

We went in first thing for lunch, 4 adults and 4 kids, the po faced landlords did basically everything they could to make us feel unwelcome short of setting the hounds on us. There were 4 other customers in the pub, and we planned to spend £100 feeding us all but to be honest we couldn't wait to get out of there. When we sat down in the empty restaurant to eat the very first thing we were told was to bunch up because they were expecting other customers. I don't think they said anything welcoming to us the entire visit and if they could have pushed us out the door with a broom they would have. If the food had been great we might have forgiven all - but it was poor value and very ordinary. They probably think customers will put up with a lot because of their amazing location, but with the great choice in Crickhowell, they really should be trying harder.

“Not happy”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed July 28, 2013

Went to this pub on a rainy afternoon as a family 4 adults 2 toddlers just for a drink, from the moment we walked in the staff we unfriendly, my son payed for the drinks and asked at the bar how much the person behind the bar very sarcastically pointed to the til the atmosphere was awful we felt as though we were at a wake. This place needs a makeover of staff .

“single diners beware”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed July 8, 2013

after enjoying a plastic glass of wine in the beer garden by the river, i decided to eat here as it was seemingly popular. i walked into the dining room and there were a couple of tables spare but i was located around the corner where no other tables were laid out. i was isolated along with the high chairs and the scent of something i tried to ignore. i ordered the Thai fish cakes as a main but there was only a starter portion available; not a problem, except they then charged me another £6 ontop for peas, carrots and potatoes to accompany the £6.95 fish cake and lettuce leaf.
the food might be ok, but beware if they put you in the anti chamber on the right.
i ate and left quickly to notice the two free tables were still free.... hmmm... doesn't happen in the rest of Europe.

will i dine there again? er, nope!
