“Caer Beris Manor Hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 26, 2013

We have just spent two nights at this hotel and were very impressed. The seven course taster diner was superb as were all the other meals. The room was very clean and comfortable as was the rest of the hotel. The 27 acres of grounds were peaceful and a delight to walk round. The staff were all very efficient and helpful. We intend to return at a future date.

Just spent two nights here, the food was spectacular especially the 7 course taster menu. The room was large and comfy although could do with updating. All the staff were very friendly and helpful and nothing was too much trouble. The setting is beautiful and would definitely return again.

My wife and I stayed overnight here during the Hay Festival this year. Forced to look further afield from Hay on Wye due to lack of available hotel rooms, we looked at this venue within the Brecon Beacons.
What a little treasure this turned out to be.
We arrived after 9.30pm having eaten supper on route from Surrey. Once checked in to a delightful Double room with TV, tea and coffee making facilities, we made a bee line for the cosy bar on the ground floor for a night cap or two. It was busy in custom but still fairly quiet. Perfect after a long day's drive.
After a comfortable night's sleep I showered in the 1 1/2 size shower cubicle in the bathroom. A warm and cosy little bathroom of about 9 x 7 ft. No bath here, but a lovely shower instead.
It was unfortunate that the hot water side of the system began to splutter to a halt during my wife's turn in the shower. A quick call to the house keeper and his instructions rectified the problem within minutes.
The breakfast was amazing, Served by a very polite waiter we enjoyed the generous full English breakfast including several options on cereal and fruit. The breakfast room was a wood panelled delight.
After breakfast we strolled the stunning grounds and crossed the bridge over the adjacent river. Beautiful!
This place is a gem. Secluded and quiet, yet rich in history and fauna.
On checking out we had an apology from the management regarding the hot water problem and they kindly offered to knock our previous night's bar bill off our final bill. You couldn't ask for more hospitality than that. Not a complaint from us yet they still understood their customers.

Would recommend to all. Great place to stay, for fishing, walks, reading, resting and eating.
Well done Caer Beris management and staff. 10/10

I was driving along the road and passed a huge sign "Open 7 days a week. Non-residents welcome" (or something similar). This tudor looking hotel is at the top of a beautiful drive flanking the River and in a lovely setting. The restaurant seems to merge into the landscape and has been recently refurbished. I enjoyed every minute and mouthful.

3 course meal with amuse brioche and pre desert cost £25 + large white wine £4.40. Fantastic home made bread and creamy butter. And what was even better because I was staying at a local bed and breakfast there was a 10% on the food! So the bottom line was £26!! Amazing value.

The two waiters were attentive and sensible. A variety of people were enjoying the 3 course deal. A biker, two posh ladies, couples. I will be back!

We have just returned from our third visit to Caer Beris Manor this year and again I did not want to come home for several reasons.....

1. The room - warm, comfy bed, silky soft duvet covers and plenty of tea and coffee and bathroom lotions and potions.
2. The food - we had the 7 course tasting menu and I have to say Spencer (the chef) and his team get better and better. I usually eat mainly fish but was served beef on sweet potato with a crayfish salsa - I thought I had died and gone to tastebud heaven, amazing Spencer :).
3. The staff - from the moment we were booked in by the beautiful Claire, greeted like friends by Sean, Craig and Daffyd we knew we were going to have another fabulous time, we did. We had a lovely chat with Peter the owner just before we left too.
4. The setting - OK this is Wales and it rained for two days, but even when it is grey and damp, the scenery at Caer Beris is spectacular, the bubbling river and wildlife a joy to behold.

I could go on about having excellent wi-fi, flat screen t.v's in the rooms and on-site very safe (up their own road to the hotel) parking, but would be in danger of writing a book.

As I type this missive, I am looking in my diary and planning our next trip. Need I say any more to recommend it?

Nope!

Room Tip: The rooms overlooking the river are all amazing

We booked this hotel for its romantic getaway package to celebrate our anniversary. The package offered champagne in room on arrival and flowers and also offered the option to have meals in your room at no extra charge. On booking in the receptionist said that there was not any champagne in the room yet as she wondered if we wanted it with our evening meal instead. Also there weren't any flowers - these had apparently not arrived from the florist. We were later given a bouquet whilst we were out on the terrace having a drink. We requested dinner in our room but were told this was not possible unless we chose from the bar menu (but we had already pre-paid for a three course restaurant meal) and didn't mind eating from our laps as she said there was not a suitable table in the room to eat from. All in all we felt the romantic package we received was not as it had been described when we booked. We had expected to walk into a room which had champagne and flowers awaiting us. And surely it would have been possible to organise a small table in our room ( the Swansea suite where we stayed was easily large enough for this), especially as we showed staff the web site print-out claiming that we had the option of dining in our room.

However the hotel was in a lovely location and the dinner was very good - albeit in the restaurant rather than private dining in our room as we had planned. Breakfast was excellent as well.

Room Tip: We stayed in the Swansea Suite which was very spacious. However it was noisy due to a waterpump con...

Thank you for taking the time to leave a review on Trip Adviser, I was very pleased to read that you were impressed with the quality of our Head Chef's food and that you enjoyed the tranquil setting surrounding our Hotel. I am very sorry that on this occasion we were unable to place the flowers in your room before your arrival although I would point out that they were delivered by the florist at 2.45pm ahead of our standard check in time of 3pm onwards. It is true that we do always encourage guests to arrive earlier should they wish to make the most of the day however we cannot always guarantee that the room will be ready and this is the reason why housekeeping were still in the process of cleaning the room and making it ready for you, I note that you took advantage of this arriving early at 1.30pm. Since we were lucky enough to be enjoying extremely hot weather that day my receptionist thought it best to keep your Champagne in the fridge so that you may be offered a fully chilled bottle on arrival although I concede it was not in the room but of coarse many of our guests take the option to enjoy their complementary bottle with dinner. The Romantic package on our website does offer free room service as an option should you wish and we are always more than happy to deliver all three dinner courses (not all at the same time) to your room. We are also able to serve bar snacks but the choice I can assure you is not limited.

Myself and 3 other members of my family had lunch in the conservatory at Caer Beris Manor Hotel we received a very warm welcome from the lady on reception and first class service from the young man waiting on table.
The meal was beautifully presented and cooked to perfection. The plates were hot and the sweets were delightful.
After lunch we walked in the grounds and viewed the Rhodies and crossed the bridge to view the Manor from a distance.
Would recommend this lovely old place to any one who wishes somewhere a little special.l
