“Past visits to the Hall”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 29, 2013

I have been to the hall twice - as a volunteer from the Tourist Information Centre so that we could see what we were promoting and as a paying member of the public at Christmas when all 52 rooms in the house are decorated. It is an interesting experience and everything is done with great attention to detail as it is a family home.
I would recommend it, but it is for grownups and not young children or teens - I don't think they would appreciate it as there isn't enough to hold their interest - in my opinion.
You have to have a guided tour because it is a private house and the tour lasts up to 2 hours.
They do serve tea and coffee but no food.

“So Peaceful”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 23, 2013

History in abundance, scenery to take your breath away, lovely food and very pleasant staff. If you want the clinical lines of well known groups of hotels then please stay away from The Hall as you certainly will not find that here, but what you will find is a place in which to relax and let the hustle and bustle of the modern world pass you by. Take your golf clubs if you must as there is a course close by but better still take a good book and pray that the sun shines and you will experience relaxation at its best.

“an absolute must”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 21, 2013

We have now visited twice, and yes there will be more.
You start by sitting in the lounge and Paul introduces himself, Victoria, the hall and how it all came about. The way this starts gives a very personal feel to the whole experience. Once he has finished his introduction he takes you from room to room explaining each step of the way why certain things are the way they are. Every room is special, with each room individually decorated and mosy of the downstairs rooms have incredible China and Porcelain collections.
The whole tour takes about 2 - 3 hours and then you are free to tour the gardens, with the Gipsy Caravan and Black Mountains Shepherd Hut, and especially the walled garden.
As I said at the beginning, this was not our first visit and the fact that there is always something being done, things change every time, I do also have to say you never see everything first time around, so it does take 2 or 3 visits just to see everything.
In case Paul forgets to tell you, they do something very special at Christmas, so just ask him!
For first time visitors be warned, and take slippers, they don't like you wearing shoes in the house, but this actually makes the whole experience more personal.
Yes I will be visiting again. Yes I am boring my friends to death, telling them they must go. Yes if you are reading this, then go and enjoy yourself.

“Inspirational”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 30, 2013

Just one word - wow! Something for everyone here - from history, interior decorating, china, memorabilia, paintings, social history and beautiful gardens. All set in a stunning valley with an old church and abbey ruins next door. Be assured of a warm welcome and your guide will bring the restoration of the house alive.
Having just moved house myself I have picked up so many ideas and tips, but need to go back - there was just so much to take in!
There are plenty of sofas and comfy chairs in which to rest while you take in the beautiful rooms. We are still talking about our visit a week later!

Thankyou Paul and Victoria for letting us share your wonderful home with us. Each beautifully decorated room was a delight , intriguing and fun. Beautiful paintings and wonderful collections from fine china and vintage childrens books to historic food tins. There would be something for everyone to enjoy. The gardens are stunning - a wonderful day out.
