It was with some trepidation that we had to make a trip to Fishguard as we had heard from ferry goers that the terminal area was not that grand. However, our fears were unfounded as the old town of Fishguard and the Quay area were delightful. Right from our first contact with Andrew through the booking procedure, he proved to be an efficient and friendly host. Not in your face , laid back, but always there when needed. Morawel is situated in a delightful valley about 100 yards from the old quay and 50 yards from the Ship where a fine pint of beer is to be had, served up with a good helping of local characters. The area is outstanding for coastal walking but do not neglect the hinterland which is fascinating and full of history (Fishguard is the site of the last invasion of Britain and the library displays a stunning exhibition of a tapestry depicting the event). Local pubs abound and Tafarn Sinc is worth a visit being a character pub with good food. We had a large room overlooking the garden and the river beyond. Tea making facilities were available also CDs and books even a CD of Under Milk Wood which was partly based on this area. The television reception was poor , other than a couple of channels, which can be expected in this steep, picturesque valley. We found a good eating place in Fishguard, The Lounge, some 300 yards up a steep hill into the town. Breakfast in Morawel was the perfect start to the day - we chose fruit ,cereal and home made jam with Welsh cakes.
The local information collated by Andrew and Theresa was comprehensive and backed up with personal recommendation. As said previously, Andrew and Theresa were excellent hosts and we look forward to meeting them again on our next visit. Typical of Andrew's care and attention, he drove 20 miles to return my mobile which I left on departure. I hope he enjoyed the bottle of wine we left in appreciation of our visit and his service, we certainly enjoyed our stay which was blessed with good weather.
