Such a beautiful little guest house!! Trevor and Caroline were extremely welcoming and ensured we had everything we needed on arrival. The view from our room was beautiful.

I wouldnt hesitate recommending friends to stay and hope to return next year.

Thanks both for making our stay so enjoyable!! Sam x

We stayed in the Marwyn several years ago, and although there were no issues, the whole place appeared very dated and much in need of a makeover. We decided to take advantage of the good weather this last weekend and while choosing somewhere to stay I was pleased to see that the Marwyn has new owners and are gradually giving the whole place a refurb. The location is superb,at the north end of the town, perfect sea views, and the town is only 5 minutes walk away. We were able to park (free) on the adjacent street. We were given room 6, a family room on the top floor. This is the same room that we stayed in many years ago. The room has been completely decorated, furniture rearranged and seemed to be a completely different room. It was clean, modern and fresh. There was no noise from inside or outside the Marwyn, we had an enjoyable night, and a good breakfast. The owners are friendly and helpful. Have no hesitation in recommending the Marwyn, in fact we have booked to stay there again in July!

Me, my wife and new born baby decided on Barmouth for a short holiday and chose to stay in the Marwyn guest house. We stayed in the very top room named "Mon" and were told this was the most newly decorated/updated of their rooms. The room was nicely decorated and comfortable, bed possibly a bit soft for me. Flat screen TV with freeview in room.
The view from the top floor was very good, overlooking the beach and could just see Bardsey island. The breakfast was tasty. The best thing about the guest house for me was the people running it, a very nice friendly family, only too eagre to help with advice on what to do and where to go.
We enjoyed our stay, and would recomend this room, and the attitude of people running the business.

I'm taking the trouble to write this review in the hope that no-one else makes the same mistake that we did. We stayed here while working away from home and weren't expecting anything special but were absolutely horrified at the state of the place. In my naiveté I didn't think that places like this still existed!
The place hasn't been touched since the 1970's, the carpets were literally threadbare, the tiles were cracked, the basin chipped, the furniture worn out, the entrance hall smelt of wet dog, the shower a lukewarm dribble and the beds were so bouncy and had so little support that I woke up with pins and needles in both hands and one foot!
If you're still thinking about it - don't. It was too bad for a bunch of builders, if I'd been staying with my wife we'd have walked out and slept in the car instead! Nasty.

The building was converted to a high quality hotel in 1980, hence the statement "This place hasn't been touched since the 1970's" is a lie.

It is undergoing gradual renovation by the new owners. In the last 4 years it has had new double glazed windows, or new energy efficient kettles, new radiators, new bed linen and towels.
In the dining room there is new solid wood flooring, new cutlery, new crockery new tableclothes and new linen napkins.

The halls and landings and exterior have been repainted.

We do not hide the quality of the guest house. We are rated 2 stars. We are the lowest rated guest house in Barmouth and our prices are set accordingly. Anyone requiring a higher standard of fixtures and fittings should try a higher rated establishment.
