“Thank you David and Heather”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 18, 2011

Our second stay in this wonderful guest house was over August Bank Holiday weekend (2011). This stay was just as fantastic as the first. We absolutely love the guest house and surrounding area and David and Heather are excellent hosts. Breakfast and evening meals were delicious. Be warned - we will be back!! And a special thanks too to Di.

Room Tip: Room 7 - best in the house with marvellous views and also the biggest

I stayed one week at this B&B in Wales and would highly recommend it. It is on a hill right outside the town of Barmouth with an excellent view of the bay. The rooms are great and very comfortable. Breakfast was great and the owner keeps the birds well supplied in birdseed so there is a constant show while you are eating breakfast! They also provide an option of evening meals which is wonderful on a rainy night. It is a short walk down the hill into town. There are many wonderful walking trails. Barmouth is a great place to make your home base as you explore this part of Wales. I did not have a car but was able to use trains and buses to get to Porthmadog and Caernarfon. The owners are very gracious and accommodating. I would highly recommend staying here!

We happened upon the Bryn Melyn by chance, but couldn't have wished for a better short break. David and Heather are excellent and informative hosts, the atmosphere is relaxing and the views are fabulous. Breakfast was a highlight, including the bird and squirrel watching! Rooms were comfortable and very clean. Car parking was 'challenging' due to the sharp angle of the entrance to the drive, but once there, you have amazing walks directly from the front door; Barmouth town is within walking distance and the return trip helps to work off some of the excess calories! All in all, we were very impressed with the standards and hospitality afforded by this guest house and would definitely stay there again.

Lovely location on hillside overlooking the estuary and above the town and very clean and comfortable room. However, the breakfast left something to be desired (for instance, no continental breakfast on offer and the eggs were hard) and for a room in this price bracket I would expect a fridge and a tv that can be watched without having to get out the binoculars! Access road was hair-raising because of the narrow sharp bends and the car park was a nightmare because of the steepness and angles of the slope. The toiletries smelt like toilet cleaner. We didn't see much of the owners so can't really comment. The antics of the biirds outside were very entertaining during breakfast, as were those of the squirrels.

My wife and I are naturally disappointed that Suze07Wiltshire did not enjoy her stay with us as much as she anticipated, although it's a shame she didn't bring any of these issue to our attention whilst she was staying with us as we would have done whatever we could to have resolved at least some of them whilst she was here.
I am sorry that she thought our breakfasts inadequate. We have a wide selection of items to compliment our locally-sourced cooked menu which pleases most guests, (as witness the positive comments in the majority of other reviews), but clearly this was insufficient.
We must plead guilty to not having fridges in each room, although we are more than happy to store anything from a guest in our own fridges. We have not received complaints about the size of the TVs or the smell of the toiletries before, but we'll bear these comments in mind.
As for our access we cannot deny that we are high on a hill that is reached via a small and steeply-graded road. However the local farmer above us brings his articulated grain trucks and hay lorries up the same road so it can't be too tiny or narrow... We are lucky to have sufficient car parking for all our guests, (many places in Barmouth have no private parking at all), and whilst it is relatively tight if the house is full most of our guests don't have any difficulty at all...
We can't be 100% certain who this guest was but we can make a good guess as we get very few guests from Wiltshire. The thing is we remember having a number of very pleasant conversations with them as we used to live in Wiltshire ourselves. "We didn't see much of the owners" therefore seems an odd thing to say when we spent time every day in conversation with them.
These guests were charming and when asked at checkout if everything had been OK they said it had. I am somewhat disappointed by the negativity in the review therefore as we thought we had provided them with a comfortable and enjoyable experience and we are truly sorry to discover that this was not the case. Criticism is good when it's deserved and we can learn from it but sometimes you wonder...

We spent 3 nights at the Bryn Melyn and had a thoroughly enjoyable stay. It was very comfortable and relaxing. The breakfasts were lovely and if you are lucky enough to be there when David cooks an evening meal we would certainly recommend booking one as they are delicious and excelllent value. The best recommendation we can give is to say that we will return and have no hesitation in recommending Bryn Melyn to all our friends.

Room Tip: Book early to get to chose one of the bedrooms overlooking the sea.

Fantastic room with wonderful views over mountains and estury. The breakfast was also very good. The only drawback to staying here was the very steep hill - but we were warned about this. The owners fed the birds which attracted so many different varieties to the front garden. Barmouth itself was a very nice place.

David and Heather made us very welcome and are a mine of helpful local knowledge. Room as expected, clean and in good condition. Wonderful views of the estuary. Adequate on site parking. Short but steep walk from Barmouth centre.
