“Disappointment”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed July 7, 2014

Had high hopes for this holiday after seeing reviews and booking the superior caravan, superior it certainly was not on entry to the van we were met with a scruffy dirty carpet which had stains which looked like they had bee there for years, the carpet was also rising up from the trim causing a trip hazard I had also booked a carry cot in advance this was not in the van when I phoned reception where I was met with a abrupt reply from the receptionist, which left me thinking why had we bothered, the site itself was very nice and close to the beach which helped improve the situation I just expected better from a superior van which was more like a basic version.

We would like to say thank you to all at Barmouth Bay holiday Park for a relaxing break, it was our first visit here and we loved it. We had lovely weather and the beach and pool were perfect.

The park is spotless and so is the pool and play area, I was happy that it was a quiet park and not too many cars with the one way system as my little girl could walk down instead of using her pram all the time and being on the lookout for constant cars.

We were close to pool, reception, play park and the beach, it's the best park we've been to and will be coming back.

Room Tip: All the park caravans/lodges are spaced out and it's very tranquil here.

We took 3 grandchildren to Barmouth Bay for a short break in June 14, and the only disappointment I can mention is that we had to come home!

Like everything in the UK, it's always better when the sun shines so to have a full weekend of clear blue skies surely helps but even if the weather had deteriorated there is plenty to keep you occupied.

The caravan was superior grade and came fully equipped and had everything you need for a self catering break, was surprisingly spacious and spotless.

The park boasts its own pool, again spotlessly clean, heated and certainly not overcrowded (24 degrees outside probably helped there) and a children's play area which our three loved to bits! Adjacent to the park is a supermarket, amusements arcade, takeaway, American style diner and a club/bar which offers drinks at very reasonable prices. There is a similar set up to this on the next park about 5 mins walk so there is variety too.

Now the Jewel in the Crown, THE BEACH! Although a little difficult to access at one end as its a rocky entrance from the road, there are other access points from within the site that are a little easy to access, the beach was an absolute delight. Pure golden sands and best of all the low decline is ideal as the tide comes in and youngsters can enjoy splashing around in safety. The access could be a big problem though for those with disabilities or buggies which is probably the only drawback I can think of.

There are plenty of eating places in the area if travelling out of the site and Barmouth is a 10 minute drive at most.

We can definitely recommend this site as a place away from hustle and bustle of modern day life but not so quiet that the kids get bored.

A return trip from us is most definitely on the cards!

Wow Jim, what a fantastic appraisal of the short break you took with us. It was also full of all the things I love to hear. We are in the business of creating great holidays that are VFM but we are also all about creating something that the whole family can enjoy, not just the kids. Lastly it's great to hear that you will all be back to do it all over again!

This was our first visit, I'd looked at reviews and was not disappointed. We didn't want a site with lots of noisy activities and this fitted the bill. There is entertainment at the Sands complex next door, we didn't use that but the chippy served some very nice chips - just right after the long drive up! We stayed in a Comfort caravan booked through Away Resorts, nice and clean and spacious with a view of the mountains. The whole site was clean, with plenty of room between the vans with adequate parking. Lovely beach just seconds away, just right for evening walks and sunsets. Would be happy to go back again

And that's exactly why we decided we would like a 'quiet' park amongst our other acquisitions! I'm glad to learn you enjoyed the peace & quiet that this park offers & thanks for the advice of Chip shops & Complex which will benefit other newcomers to the site

We have stayed in Barmouth many times and this is a beautiful area which is nice and quiet with an amazing beach. We are just back from a short 3 night break.

Reception - Nice, friendly and efficient. We only had to pick up our keys when we arrived which was no problem and ask for another sheet as the wrong size was on our bed. Both times there was not a problem and was dealt with straight away.

Caravan - great!! we booked a Superior but really not sure if they up-graded us to the luxury as it really was very nice. Freshly made bed (although the wrong size sheet) and all of it was very clean. The facilities were very good in the van and we had no complaints at all..apart from one - there was no decking to sit out on. I really would expect this as standard nowadays from a caravan especially when you book the higher graded ones. There was a small patio area but no patio furniture was supplied. This didn't bother us too much as we only went for a 3 night break but I do feel this really needs to be addressed, if we had gone for a week I would of been a little annoyed that I couldn't sit out.

Food & Drink - well this is a self catering holiday but the facilities in the van were fab if you wanted to cook, full size oven and an integrated microwave as well as a full size fridge freezer!! There are 2 chip shops within a 2 minute walking distance same as 2 bars which also served food. If you wanted to go further afield then this is a cars drive but not very far.

Entertainment - there is no bar etc on this actual site but as mentioned above there are 2 bars within very short walking distance, both do entertainments on certain nights and I would assume in high season every night. We didn't really see any of it to comment.

Pool - there is a nice pool, we didn't use it but had a quick look and looked nice, clean and modern.

Location - the location is excellent, a 5 minute walk form the most fabulous beach and as mentioned previously short walk from bars and food. This site is strictly in Talybont but to drive to Barmouth town it takes about 10 minutes.

Overall - Really recommend trying this site as the price was pretty reasonable for what standard you receive and near to everything you would want. We had a lovely stay and have said we will definately book again if the decking issue is sorted, next time for longer.

You really were allocated a Superior caravan though I'm not surprised you thought you had been upgraded to Luxury! Unfortunately this grade of accommodation does not come with decking as standard & you would have to upgrade to a Luxury unit to get that. Finally thanks for your recommendation as well as your kind comments

It was a very good price for the accommodation provided, the caravan we stayed in was brilliant and very modern. There was a nice bar on site and plenty of food options, the park itself was about a minute walk from the beach. The indoor swimming pool was lovely and warm, staff on site were always very helpful and friendly. Would definitely highly recommend to anyone and will be going back again soon.

This park was a bit of a gamble for us Grace as it's the first 'quiet' park we have acquired & no one was really sure how that would pan out. So far we have been enormously pleased with the positive reviews we have received from our guests & thank you so much for adding yours to the list. It has certainly helped us to retain our overall rating of 4 out of 5 stars!

Returned back home , wishing we were still there , Barmouth Bay holiday park is well kept clean site , with caravans and chalets well looked after on site , stayed in a 8 birth caravan , value for money was fantastic for type of caravan we had can not fault it in any way , highly recommended. Weather was lovely and beach only being a 2min walk away was ideal , with a beach to die for, that goes on for miles looked after well,. cant wait to return.

Room Tip: you cant fault any caravan or chalet they are well equipped clean and modern
