Many thanks to John and Jupp for a fabulous two-night stay in Barmouth.
The breakfasts are something to relish although we didn't try the full Welsh breakfast. John bakes his own delicious bread (no bread maker, it's done the 'proper' way), and it's hard to choose which of the wonderful array of home-made jams and jellies/marmalades to have on your toast. If you decide on porridge and/or scrambled eggs with or without salmon, both come highly recommended - but there is a lot to choose from and I don't doubt they are all excellent.
If you can stay for more than one night, you should. There is a library containing many books and maps of the area, which are available to borrow. The hosts do a lot of walking and will make good recommendations; another reviewer mentions the circular walk to the top of the hill behind the house, which is very well worth the climb. The views from the top are superb and a just reward for the effort.
John is a Welsh speaker and a native of Barmouth, and is very interesting to talk to about the history of the area. If you want to know how anything is pronounced in Welsh, here is your chance to ask. Jupp is a native German speaker with a delightful Welsh accent!
The room is huge, the bed comfortable, the décor tasteful, everything immaculately clean. The view to the front is wonderful, looking across the river and over the bridge. The room is double glazed so no draughts or noise.
There was no TV or radio in the room, but there is a good internet connection.
So out of 100, I would probably give it at least 110.
