“Great Stay”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 31, 2011

I ended up getting stranded in Barmouth due missing my last train after a trek up Cadair Idris. So I was very greatful to the lady at the Wavecrest to allow me stay without booking! The Wavecrest is Well priced, has a lovely beach front location, and they provided a very comfy room. You also have the option of a Full English Breakfast in with the price of the room, which I have to say was fantastic, nicely cooked too! I could'nt recommend The Wavecrest enough.

It was our first stay at the wavecrest but it has come highly recommended from friends and family. We were not disappointed as Eric and Shelagh made our stay extremely comfortable from start to finish. Our room was spacious and overlooked the sea and the bed was very comfortable. Breakfast was top notch and I would be tempted to go just for the English/Welsh breakfast not to mention the range of jams.
We will be back.

Room Tip: Go for a sea view

This was our second stay at Wavecrest and was just as good as our first. On arrival Eric showed me to the room while Shelagh chatted to my fiancee. The room was excellant, a real home from home. Breakfast was superb, served in a dining room with lovely sea views. Nothing seems too much trouble for Eric and Shelagh and their attention to detail is to be admired. We were made to feel very welcome and will be back next year. Nick and Sammy

My boyfriend and I spent a couple of days at the Wavecrest B&B in Barmouth and we really enjoyed it.
The Wavecrest is located on Barmouth's beautiful seafront, so in order to get to the beach you really only have to cross the street.
The towncentre with its restaurants and shops is only a very short walk away.
The landlord and landlady are wonderful people. They made us feel quite at home there. They were very helpful with suggestions on how to make the best of our stay, showed us pictures and books on the area around Barmouth and were always happy to have a little chat.
They served a delicious cooked breakfast and were happy to cater to my vegetarian wishes, while my boyfriend enjoyed his traditional full English.
Our room had a nice and romantic view of the beach and the sea, with chairs in the baywindow to enjoy the view over a cup of tea. The en-suite bathroom was very clean, as was the room. The bed was comfortable. We especially liked the fact that the room was very spacious, so we had ample space to put our bits and bobs. The furniture was very stylish and tasteful, especially if -like us- you enjoy all things classic and traditional.
There were free parking spaces right outside the house which made unloading nice and easy.
So, really, there was nothing to complain about at all. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and cannot wait to go there again!

Room Tip: Opting for a seaview is really worth it! But all the rooms we saw looked equally good, they all had...

Located on the sea front with views over the beach and a two minute walk to the sea. Superb breakfasts, and very fiendly, helpful owners with a great sense of humour. What more could you ask for a great weekend break. We will be returning soon, thank you Shelagh and Eric.

My husband and myself stayed at the Wavecrest for two nights 14th - 16th October. On arrival Eric greeted us at the door very welcoming with milk and biscuits to take to our room to make a drink of our choice. (plenty to choose from). Room was very clean and comfortable.

Breakfast made by Shelagh was the best we had ever had, could not eat anything else until tea time. A bundance of fresh fruits - rasberries, blueberries, prunes and grateful, a wide choice of cerials to choose from. Fresh coffee and tea on request. Served by Eric who was always very pleasant and helpful in everyway. They both went out their way showing us different walks. Close to the town. Views from bedroom were beautiful.

Shelagh and Eric are very warm and caring people, we felt we had made new friends at the end of our stay.

Would recommend the Wavecrest to anyone Good value for money

We will be returning again and again and again.

Stayed here quite recently. Was really looking forward to it, however when we arrived the owner Eric took us up to our room. He said immediatly as soon as he took us in, that he and his wife were cursing us as they could have let the room for 2 nights if they hadnt let it to us for just 1 night.!!! I was really taken aback by this. I dont think he was joking either as it seemed a pretty genuine comment. Have to say that remark really set the tone for the entire stay. The owner seemed a little petty and i felt a bit of a nuisance, like i was not really welcome in his house and it was really just the money he was interested in. Also had rude comments off him when i went down for breakfast and he overstepped the mark a little between polite banter and humiliating behaviour. I have never met the man before but found him a bit rude and a definite air of Basil Fawlty about him. He seemed a bit of a stickler for rules too and i also found him a bit too over familiar.

What can i say... the comments regarding the wishing they'd let the room out to someone else for 2 nights instead of our 1 was unpleasant and unwelcoming to say the least. After all they happily accepted my booking at the time, but when it turned out there was unexpected demand over the weekend it was a different story.
The house was pleasant enough, rooms ok average, but after our experience i'd never stay there again. If they had not took a deposit i'd have spoken up and left immediatly.
Just not the way to treat guests and after so long in the business should know so much better. Unimpressed.
