“great bistro”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 28, 2008

Asked for a seaview so was quite dissapointed on arrival to get a "partial" sea view. Our main view was the wall of the house opposite. We did ask for a room change but the Hotel was full. Our double room was rather small but clean.
However as we were relaxing before our first dinner we found out that our room was also directly over a large kitchen extractor fan! This was active between 7am-9.30am and 6pm-10pm. It was not only excessively noisy, but also vibrated the floor of the whole room, so unless you wanted a headache it was better to be out of the room during these times. No we did not complain as we had been told the hotel was full. (Management need to try the room out!)
If you make sure you ask for a FULL sea view (when booking), you will avoid that room and you should be happy.

Now for the real plus of this hotel. The helpful staff, the deck overlooking the water and the Bistro. Our two day package included breakfast and evening meal
The two breakfasts were lovely and service great. The two evening meals were really outstanding. For hotel residents there was a special menu with a choice of 4 starters, 4 main meals and a sweet. All these meals were from the Bistro menu. The bistro was full on both evenings but as residents, our sea view table was reserved on both evenings. The staff were more than willing to give directions and tips about the whole area and all were pleasant and helpful. Would we return.YES! (in a seaview room). The Gwbert was excellent value for a short break and a grat base for exploring the region.

  • Liked — The helpful staff and the bistro food.
  • Disliked — Our room (but other rooms we saw were fine)

4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 30, 2008

Stayed in March 2008 for a wedding.

We did not know what to expect but upon arrival we were pleasantly suprised.

First impressions of the hotel from the outside were that it looked like any white washed B+B building that you find any where on the coast of the UK.

The hotel inside had a very contemporary feel with modern bar and restaurant complete with leather sofas and LCD TVs on the walls. The food in the bistro restaurant was very good with fantastic panoramic views of cardigan bay.

The hotel also had a very nice decked terrace at the front overlooking the bay although as it was March we stayed inside.

The rooms were also ok - not as contemporary as the rest of the hotel but clean, fairly spacious and decorated to a reasonable standard.

All the staff were very helpful and helped make the weekend.(Apparently this was the first wedding they had catered for and everything went exceptionally well)

Would certainly reccomend for a 'quiet' weekend away as very little in the area to do other than walking and taking in the sea views but an excellent location to just get away from it all.
