We decided to have dinner at the Stein Inn after a good meal last year when we were last in Skye. The Inn is perfectly situated down by the shore with views out to the Outer Hebrides. What a contrast to our last visit - we ate in the restaurant rather than the bar - the service was appalling and the food mediocre. It was a Monday night and although both the bar and restuarant were fairly full I've seen it busier. There appeared to be 3 girls serving food and they clearly couldn't cope - 2 were very pleasant however the third was extremely surly bordering on rude. It took ages to get menus, ages for them to take the order, they then forgot the wine we had ordered and when the food did arrive it was unimpressive. I may be picky but when a menu describes seared scallops I expect them to be brown and caramelised, these were still white and fairly tasteless. The loch Dunvegan prawns I had as a main (£14) were ok but would have been much better if they hadn't just been taken out the fridge. On the plus side my boyfriend's steak was very nicely cooked. It's undoubtedly a cosy bar for a drink on a cold night but I don't think I would want to eat there again.
