Our room was on the first floor overlooking the street with a partial view of the harbour. It was compact but serviceable and not cheap at £80 a night for B&B.
Sadly, both twin beds had mattresses which sagged in the middle and creaked and groaned with every movement. The duvets smelled as though they had befriended a previous occupant however, both sheets on the bed were fresh and clean.
The curtains did not keep out either the street lights or the daylight.
The bathroom was well laid out with lots of space to put toiletries however the heated towel rail was sited on the wall next to the toilet and there was little space between it and the toilet, especially when it was loaded with towels. I wiped hair and yellow gunk from the sink’s plughole. The knob for the fixed head shower was difficult to turn on and off and it was not pleasant to have a final unplanned cold shower when trying to turn it off. A doorstop, which was attached at the base of the bath, had lost its rubber end and was now a metal spike, which I twice walked into, narrowly avoiding a cut.
The picture on the TV was just a white unwatchable fuzz. There was no telephone in the room.
We had arrived late, around 7.30 pm, and, while unpacking, noticed that the dining room closed at 8 pm. We found the remains of a sad looking buffet in the restaurant and no other menu. The buffet was £17.95 per head and the staff, a man who couldn’t understand English and a female who did understand a little better, looked surprised when we said we would eat elsewhere. We then went to the Hotel’s Bistro, which was full, and were told that it was closing in 5 minutes at 8 pm too. Fortunately, we found another eating place, just across the road.
Breakfast was the best thing about this hotel. A buffet, which did not look very exciting, but where the food was tasty and service, from a friendly. helpful manageress, was much appreciated.
We will NOT be back!
