“Great food but not a great welcome”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 19, 2013

The food is excellent . Presentation is excellent. The service was slow and not exactly warm. I think in this business service should be with a smile and perhaps a little chat. Dishes were explained , but that's as far as chat went when served by the owner. We all enjoyed our food and the home made petit fours with coffee were delicious.
It took 3 hours to be served from start to finish. Wine is good at 17 pounds but Prosecco is a bit over priced at 8.50 a glass.
This was meant to be a very special occasion .
The price is not cheap and we did expect a bit more warmth to encourage a future visit.
Not so sure I would.

“A quiet night in a lovely restaurant”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 23, 2013

We have been to La Potiniere many times over the past few years. We have always enjoyed the food, and out most recent visit was no exception. This is absolutely not the place to go for a loud night out. The restaurant is quiet, the food is very good indeed (absolutely as good as Greywalls, just up the road, and owned by the Roux Brothers) and the wine list is very reasonable. We had excellent Thai coconut broth, follewed by lamb accompanied by an excellent Cab Sauvignon. Deserts are btter than Greywalls.

“Just perfect”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 1, 2013

It's two years since we were up in Gullane - East Lothian, so it was an obvious choice for us to celebrate our daughter's birthday. The food is delightful, the wines heavenly - simple as that!

If you're in the Edinburgh area - do not miss this culinary delight! I just wish it was situated in my home town!

“Well worth the trip from Edinburgh”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 26, 2013

Firstly La Potiniere has a set menu with the choice of two starters, two mains and two puddings. The chef changes it based on what is good that day and concentrate on quality, and boy does he deliver. There is one sitting a night so you are never rushed.

It is actually quite difficult to choose as everything sounds sooo tempting. Portions are spot on and really excellent value for money. If you are in Gullane on a Golf trip book here. IF you live in Edinburgh, get in the car and go here, well worth it.

“Delicious meal.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 21, 2013

I really enjoyed our meal here. The food was delicious and the waiting staff efficient without being intrusive. Yes, it is like being in someone's house for your dinner, however, it's part of the experience and a change from the dim lighting and over-styled look of many fine dining establishments. The menu had two options for each course and the wine menu a god selection. I liked the rate at which the courses arrived, I could relax and enjoy the company of my husband and converse in peace. I just wish we hadn't pre-booked our taxi and had to rush a bit at the end to leave. We will be back.
