“Very Nice Hotel”

In response to another reviewer: Yes, one of the beaches is right next to the airport. The best place on earth to watch airplanes land. It's a right of passage to stand on the beach at Maho Bay as a big 747 lands and you feel you can almost touch the plane.

All of the big planes come in over a couple of hours in the afternoon. There are probably 5 or 6 big airplanes that land at this airport. This airport is not Chicago O'Hare, it's a small island airport. All the other planes are small prop planes.

As for the noise, you can't hear the planes from the hotel, just from the beach. Also, that's just one of the beaches, if they would have ventured to the other side of the hotel along Mullet Bay, they would have come across a beautiful quiet beach, a 5 minute walk from the hotel.

And as for the noise from the beach bar and casinos. I don't know where he was situated because I have never heard either from the hotel in the six times I've been there.

Beautiful pool and sunbathing area. Check out the waterfall!

Depending on where you go, food is good to excellent. Eat fish, you are on an island! And yes, there is a Subway if you really miss American food.

The beach bar is a wonderful place to see the sunset. You can't beat burgers, a beer, and a beautiful Carribbean sunset.

This isn't Disneyworld, if you want a lot of action, I would suggest going elsewhere. But if you want a nice place to relax, this is just your cup of tea.

Within walking distance from the hotel are many restaurants, one casino, a couple of bars, a small grocery store, and one or two nightclubs. They have a small main street that also includes jewelry stores, swim shops, and an ice cream place.

I'm not a jewelry fanatic, but it is my understanding from talking to other guests that it is one of the best places to buy jewelry in the world at great prices.

Rent a car and go see the French side of the island. You can drive around the entire island without stopping in 2 hours.

Overall, a beautiful, fun place to visit.

We just returned from our 5 day vacation and had a great time. The rooms are nice & clean. The pool is very nice surrounded by lush gardens and the beach is beautiful. Now about the planes, "I though oh, God it's next to the airport it will be hell" I can tell you not true! This is a small airport and most of the planes are little ones with a couple of boeings that land and this is only during the day. It's actualy cool to see them this close. I had great time, enjoyed the beach & the next door casino and have great photos. Of course it's good to rent a car and drive around since the island is not that small and you can explore both French and the Dutch sides. Had great time and would stay here again.

Well, where do we start.

The travel agent asked us if we minded the occasional airplane. She said that the Maho was close to the airport.

We told her we were ok with the occasional plane. I did not understand that occasional meant every 5 minutes.

The brochure shows a marvelous white sand beach. What it doesn't show is that it is directly beneth the runway. The AirTransat rep told us to go to the bar beside the beach on Tuesday and Thursday to watch the poor sunbathers get tossed around by the big jets coming in from Europe.

There was no usuable beach!

The good news is there are a couple of nightclubs within walking distance. The bad news is that they party until 4 in the morning. Good luck trying to sleep with the constant thump thump thump of the bass.

The staff were courteous.

The food was ok.

If you are looking to party until 3 or 4 in the morning and like to live under airport, then this is the perfect place for you.

Cheers
