I very much enjoyed my 2 night stay. I was made to feel very welcome, the staff all young, and very helpful, they couldn't do enough for me. I have a false leg, and they carried my bags , even out to the car on leaving. I will definitely go again.

Thoroughly enjoyed our one night stay at The Market Inn - were made to feel extremely welcome. We opted to stay in for our evening meal and were thoroughly impressed with the standard of food and the service. Again we chose to have breakfast and again were very impressed - more do to find out that the lady who did the breakfast had also cooked our evening meal! ONLY downside was the local disco - extremely loud - but that is only on a Saturday night and although it may ruin a visit for some didn't take away from our visit at all - will most definitely be back!

My husband and I recently enjoyed 3 nights at this hotel. We received a warm welcome from staff and locals. Shopping in the town is a lovely experience. Shop assistants really seem pleased to provide a warm friendly service. Local bakers highly recommended.

Where to begin? My girlfriend and I decided to travel up to Castle Douglas for a long relaxing weekend away from the day to day hustle and bustle of Oxford. After a lengthy journey on the Friday evening we finally arrived at the 'Market Inn' our first impressions were that the hotel was well presented and quirky on its exterior. Parking was readily available outside the hotel which was of great convenience due to the hefty size of my other halves luggage! We entered the hotel and was immediately greeted by a warm welcoming smile behind the reception desk, check-in was quick and simple and we were shown to our room within minutes of arrival. The interior of the hotel lobby was well lit and very well presented, we could'nt help but feel we had paid under the odds for our weekend stay. Once showed to our rooms it was apparent this was a very well maintained hotel that was clearly loved by its owner, the room and en-suite bathroom was immaculate and very hygienic, the beds were comfy and the sheets were fresh and clean which ensured a great nights sleep. In the morning we made our way downstairs to order our breakfast which to our delight was one of the best breakfasts we had ever eaten not to mention the generous portion size. After our day out we returned back to the hotel where we were immediately recognised and felt as if we were regulars, which was a very warming feeling, not only the owner and the receptionist but the whole staff throughout the hotel were extremely professional and were willing to bend over backwards for any needs we had. Overall i can't emphasise how much we enjoyed our stay at the Market Inn, and would recommend it to anybody and everybody, the Market Inn definitely ranks in the top hotels we have ever stayed in.

This has to be the worst "hotel" I've ever stayed in. From walking through the entrance I knew at once that it was going to be bad. It's run down, dark, drab and just got worse as we were led up the stairs to our room.

Our room was just horrible, thank goodness we were only staying for one night. It was dated, the carpet and curtains looked old and tired, the "ensuite" if you can call it that was just a cheap basic shower with a horrible shower curtain, we hated every minute of being there. To make matters worse we had to contend with a group of foul mouthed locals hanging outside the entrance as we made our way out, who made leery comments as we walked past.

We couldn't get to sleep until the above-mentioned yobs had gone home, they were standing outside all evening swearing loudly and drinking, unfortunately directly underneath our room.

Breakfast was as expected, overcooked scrambled eggs, probably not much better than a motorway cafe.

Never again!
