“Friendly welcome”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed October 18, 2012

This hotel has seen better days but the staff are very friendly and welcoming. Staying in October meant we were the only people staying. The bar closed at nine o'clock which was very disappointing but they were no customers. Breakfast was nice but no cooked breakfast offered. On the plus side the bed was very comfortable and the room was cosy.

I booked in May for an overnight stay for 8 at the end of August. I called tonight to confirm the booking and they had no record of it. That's twice this has happened to me in the same area.

I cannot tell you how much this severely inconveniences me as we now have to find alternative accommodation in the area which is very busy due to the Merrick Rally.

They made no attempt to assist with alternative arrangements despite this being their ,istake.

Stayed here for 1 night for a family occasion. Therefore didn't eat dinner here so can't comment on that.
Price for a night was average - £60 for a double room and £45 for a single.
Room was clean. Bedding was extremely cosy and comfortable. Kettle, iron and hairdryer in room. Only thing we missed which we could have done with was wi-fi.
As this was a village pub it closes before 10 which surprised us city folk but means its very quiet (but we did stay during the week, could be different at weekends maybe!!!)
Breakfast was lovely. Cereal was offered and cooked fresh breakfast with high quality bacon.

My wife and I spent 3 nights here during the Wigtown Book Festival. This is a simple hotel, right in the middle of Wigtown and I cannot recommend the friendly service high enough. A bit old fashioned in decor (I really like the engravings of 'Sheep in the Snow') but up-to-date with welcome. I shall make it my stop again.

Room Tip: Overlooking the main square for a fine take of the town

Stayed for one night whilst visiting the area and couldnt believe how nice it was. Girl serving on the bar was fantastic very attentive and offered great service. We arrived and had some dinner which was good and a few drinks nice environment to sit in. Had breakie the next morning and was to a good standard set you up for the day. Would definately use again if in the area.

5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 17, 2008

This hotel has changed hands recently and been given a facelift, both outside and in. The rooms are of a contemporary design, very comfortable and good value. The staff and the owners alike are very friendly and helpful and it was nice to talk to the locals, sitting in the bar. We had a few lovely meals in The Granary restaurant too and thoroughly enjoyed our visit to Wigtown and to the Wigtown Ploughman.
