“Great place to stay”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 17, 2011

Just back from a wonderful 2 night stay. Very friendly welcome and a great atmosphere and recommendations of places to visit and dine. It is in a very handy location 5 minutes walk from the main street and bus stops. It's a very central location, just 20 minutes on the bus from Wigtown, Scotland's Book Town or a pleasant bike ride if you prefer. There are regular bus services from Newton Stewart which go to the ferry at Stranraer and to Dumfries Station. Service 500 carries bikes for free.

We enjoyed the stay at Stables Guest House, my brother-in-law and I were staying here for 2 nights, as we were mountain biking at one of the 7Stanes.

Jacqui was hospitable and very helpful. When we arrived she made sure that we have enough information about the mountain biking in the area.

The location of the Guest House is about a 5 min walk down a short downhill path to the the main high street where there are plenty of eating options, shops and banks.

The room was clean and comfortable, overlooked a very nice garden. In the room was a TV and a tray of teas/coffee/hot chocolate and 2 bottles of water which were replaced every morning.

You get a private toilet/shower room but bear in mind it's not en-suite but opposite to the room. Note: the shower room/toilet is for your use only. Quality shower gel/hand soap/shampoo were provided. This was no issue at all to us.

The breakfast was very good. Cereals and fruit to start followed by a cooked to order fried up (not greasy at all) or smoked salmon with scrambled egg. Both breakfasts were very well made.

Would definitely stay again!

I work in Galloway periodically and in the last few trips have always used this place after trying a few other local B&Bs. Its quite a comfortable place to stay, nice and quiet, but only a short walk to town centre. The hostess, Jackie is a cheery and friendly person.
The showers are decent quality and the rooms are fairly modern.

We spent one night at Jackie's lovely guest house. We were made welcome from the moment we arrived and served tea and cake in the sitting room. Our room was immaculate and had all the amenities specified. Jackie found out in advance that I was a vegetarian and there was a superb veggie breakfast served along with an abundant Full English for my husband. The location was perfect, just a few minutes walk to the Town Centre and there is ample parking in front of the Guest House. I would strongly recommend it.

A warm welcome from Jacqui with tea, cake and shortbread. A comfortable bedroom with all required extras (eg hairdryer, bottled water, lovely toiletries - you name it; Jacqui has thought of it!). Great information on the surrounding area available and good recommendations of places to visit and at which to eat. The best thing is the breakfast - a must!
