“Excellent B&B”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 30, 2013

We stayed for 2 nights last week after a few days further north in the Highlands. We'd stayed in another 4* rated B&B up there, but it couldn't compare to Muirfad Farmhouse. Bas and Sue were extremely friendly, warm and welcoming. The twin room was spacious and had lovely comfy beds and a fabulous outlook over the immaculate garden and over to the estuary. The shower room en-suite was absolutely spotless, with lots of little luxury touches we'd not found elsewhere, and the breakfast was scrumptious and filling. It was by far the best we'd had all week, and the service was truly exceptional. I couldn't fault it and will definitely be going back for a longer stay!

Room Tip: We stayed in the twin en-suite; don't know about other rooms, but assume they are also exception...

We were given a very warm welcome from Bas and Sue and provided with tea and delicious warm scones on arrival. The twin room we stayed in was spotless, as was the rest of the house, and the beds were wonderfully comfortable. Breakfast was probably the best we have ever had in a B & B - including home cured bacon, homemade sausages (Bas used to be a butcher) , and award-winning black pudding imported from Lancashire. Sue also made a lovely fresh fruit salad which we really enjoyed . We stayed for two nights and Bas and Sue made it feel like a home from home. It was obvious how much they enjoyed what they did, and nothing was too much trouble for them. Also the B & B is ideally placed to explore the Dumfries and Galloway area and Bas and Sue were helpful in suggesting places to see. Would recommend 100 % and will definitely stay there again.

Right from the first welcome you just knew that everything was going to be perfect. Accommodation and facilities were first class, food excellent and Basil and Sue (Sybil) were always about if you needed advise on outings etc. We stayed for 7 nights and couldn't find anything to criticise at all. Would certainly recommend Muirfad to anyone going into that region as it is fairly central to most of the interesting areas of Dumfries and Galloway. Our only criticism of our trip was nothing to do with Muirfad but the generally poor signage to places of interest. Once you turned off the main road you lost all track of where you were heading and how far away it was.

Very easy to find this farmhouse as it is visible from the main road, but not at all noisy. Very warm welcome and delightful room, with beautiful views over the bay. Very comfortable bed and well appointed bathroom. Nice room to sit in downstairs too. The Scottish breakfast was a work of art and delicious. Very well situated for touring the centre of Dumfries & Galloway: I can't recommend Muirfad highly enough.

Recently stayed at Muirfad. Our hosts, Basil and Sue, welcomed us with a cup of tea and could not do enough to make sure that our stay was going to be an unforgettable experience. The en-suite room was beautifully furnished and the beds most comfortable. We would have no hesitation in recommending Muirfad and would certainly return when we are in the area again.

We stayed here for two nights as a base for going into the Galloway Forest Park (in search of dark skies). I cannot begin to express how welcoming and friendly Basil and Sue were to us. It really is a home away from home. They accommodated everything to make the stay so special. We stayed out late one night, stargazing at the Galloway Astronomy Centre with Mike (again, fantastic, friendly, enthusiastic and a must for anyone with any interest in astronomy), and Basil was still awake on our return. The attention to detail, especially at breakfast, is unsurpassed, and we, along with everyone, loved Basil's breakfast attire. Sun-room at the front has gorgeous views and could happily have spent a day reading. Brilliant location - Galloway is a really well kept secret with so much on offer to do and see and such beautiful unspoilt countryside. Thank you so much. We will be back.

This is one of the very best b&b accommodations I have encountered.
We received a very warm welcome never lessened during our 3 night stay which we extended to 4 nights.
Very good food made from local produce was well served in very pleasant surroundings.
Rooms were very comfortable, spotlessly clean and had excellent tea making facility.
Lounge and garden was great to relax in.
Just could not find any faults.
This was a great centre for touring the area.
