You can take a wander around the slate quarry where you will find information boards giving the history of the quarry. There are 2 ponds, lots of wildflowers and birds to spot plus a few resident ducks. Also picnic tables if you would like to take a rest. As you go into the quarry there is a path directly to your right where you can take a pleasant walk along the Brecklet path which brings you out further along the village and down by the River Laroch.

“Interesting Walk”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 26, 2013

We had learned the history of the slate quarry from a story board opposite our hotel, the Isle of Glencoe, and the quarry was a very short walk away. It was a short circle route telling the history of the quarry and its workers - a nice meander after a good meal! Don't miss the sheds and slate piles over the berm across from the hotel. Very picturesque! From that day on we looked for and were surprised by all the slate roofs wherever we went in Scotland, knowing they probably came from Ballachulish.

“A splendid attraction and shop”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 26, 2013

If anyone is visiting the area around Glencoe and Ballachulish, they could do worse than visit the old slate quarry. The tiles from this area have been shipped all around the world and now closed you can see in the neighbourhood the characteristic hand cut roof slate tiles on homes in the village. The walk is excellent and attached to the attraction is a first class restaurant and giftshop. The menu offered is limited but every day they offer a special like chilli con carne and always soup and sandwich and assorted sandwiches. The staff are friendly and provide swift service. I met an American political commentator who I recognised from the TV when I was last here. The Loch A82 road is a great flat walk along to the village of Glencoe with its Folk Museum, again worth a visit.

“A surprisingly nice walk”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 12, 2013

We (family of 4, 2 adults, 2 teens & a dog) stumbled upon this lovely attraction when looking for a place to have a meal in Ballachulish. We went to the visitor centre and from there we saw the entrance to the Quarry.

What a find! We all enjoyed our walk, and the males were brave enough to scale to the heights of the highest slate terraces. There are many walks around the Quarry, and it is lovely regardless of which path you take.

The dog loved playing in the still quarry reservoir and the water was impeccably clean and clear.

Had we known this place was here, we'd have taken a picnic to enjoy at one of the many picnic tables along the way. There was plenty of places for us to stop and sit, and it was very quiet...not too many people around. Bliss.

We went into the quarry very early in the morning and were completely alone. It was hauntingly beautiful, and we met some friendly ducks!
