“Amazing Location”

Isles of Glencoe Hotel & Leisure Centre

Jul 8, 2008

Booked this hotel primarily for location - we werent dissappointed. We were allocated a room on the ground floor with doors out onto the garden over looking Loch Leven - perfect! Dinner was exceptional on both nights and the staff were very friendly and helpful. The only let down was the cooked breakfast. On both mornings the food was tasteless and very greasy. However we managed to fill up on the fresh fruit, cereals and pancakes instead but it would have been 10/10 if the breakfast was better.
All in all, a fantastic stay. I would recommend this hotel to anyone who wanted to get away from it all & take in some spectacular scenery.

“Perfect stay - will definitely be back!!!!”

Isles of Glencoe Hotel & Leisure Centre

Stayed at this hotel for a long weekend with my other half. This hotel is perfect for a romantic weekend away. Location is so peaceful and idealic. Staff are very attentive, friendly and will go out of their way to help you.

Hotel room has beautiful views of the loch. Room is very spacious and has chairs positioned at the large windows so you can appreciate the views. Windows have excellent black out blinds so you don't wake up at the crack of dawn.

We had booked DBB for our whole stay. Restaurant is in a conservatory overlooking the loch - beautiful! The menu changed each night but there was a limited choice of main courses (I think only 4). Dishes were delicious - would definitely recommend the restaurant.

Basic but adequate swimming pool. Unfortunately, pool had to be closed for one afternoon during our stay - but staff were so apologetic and arranged for problem to be fixed within a few hours.

We had an excellent stay here and will definitely be back.

We stayed for one night on a DBB rate. The welcome was good and our room had a superb view. However, the room was shabby and the toilet seat fell off! The bathroom could have been much cleaner than it was and the same could be said for the room - in particular the hospitality tray was dirty. The evening meal was good but not much of it. Judging by the speed of service, much of the food was ready-plated. Our vegetables were an extremely small portion compared with other tables.
Breakfast was self-service and spread over two different rooms off the dining room. The croissants were stale and the 'hot' food was definately re-heated, probably cooked the night before. There was no bacon, just a pool of fat in the dish and the sausages were like rubber. This could be a wonderful hotel if they got rid of the lazy chef and stopped cutting corners. A lick of paint and some sort of controls in housekeeping would go a very long way. The staff in general were good but their work was marred by management policy (which was either to cut corners or not to check on their work). Such a shame.

Having stayed at this hotel when it was owned by 'Freedom of the Glen,' I decided to book back in recently. They've been taken over by a group who seem to enjoy buying hotels en masse and not spending the time updating/repairing them. Hence the reason why the hotel is now a 3* and not a 4* as it would have you believe on their website and other review sites.

Trying to find the entrance, after driving through the village of Ballachulish, was something of a nightmare. The exterior of the hotel is largely unwelcoming and the faded remains of 'Highland Mysteryworld' (the empty building adjoining this hotel) still remain. The welcome by the receptionist was something of a surprise. I'm guessing they were expecting an Irishman, because as soon as I opened my mouth, she knew my name and had my key ready.

The room was perfect and the view was something else. I took pictures, but nothing can compare to the reality of waking up to Loch Leven and the Pap of Glencoe first thing on a cool, warm Autumnal morning.

The hotel could do with a refurb as it looks like it badly needs one. I can't comment on the pool, as it was closed due to the fact the chlorine pump had gone into overdrive and pumped thousands of litres of chlorine into the small pool, thus making several people very itchy. Which provided me with some amusement at dinner time, watching all those poor unfortunate souls, scratching themselves to death.

If I were to mention two people at this hotel who deserve a payrise and promotion, it would have to be Yvonne (Head Receptionist) for her personalised welcome and very cheerful attitude. Arriving at a place for only the second time and being greeted like an old friend is fantastic. The other person is David, the Night Porter. His knowledge and passion for Scottish football was excellent, I felt bad for keeping him back from his work, but he was a friendly chap, so I felt I had to make myself scarce incase we relived the old games, when players were players, until the small hours of the morning. Something I'm sure he is used to seeing, unlike us mortal beings.

Nice location on the shore of Loch Leven between Glencoe and the Ballachulish bridge.

The hotel was very clean and well maintained throughout. The room was larger than average at this budget, as was the immaculate bathroom, both containing everything you would expect and nothing you wouldn't. Having an exterior door opening into the hotel garden leading to the Loch was a pleasant surprise.

The staff were friendly and welcoming and were happy to dispense travel advice including warnings of roadworks in the region.

Although we did not use the hotel restaurant for dinner the cooked buffet breakfast was excellent in both choice and quality. The dining area was as clean as the rest of the hotel and features a conservatory area with views of Loch Leven.

I would definitely use this hotel again and would be happy to recommend it to anybody.
