We arrived at 3pm on Saturday 5th January for a 2 night stay. The reception was quite busy but we were attended to quickly. We were initially given room no 115 - we walked down to the room and upon opening the door the stench of dampness was disgusting. I called reception and said I was not happy and wanted another room. I got the impression that he had heard many complaints about this room as he did not even question my complaint. He said all they have is a 'superior' twin room. I told him that was fine. The room was 315. It was a room that had been adapted for a disabled person. There was no bath but a wet room. The floor was dirty (the tiles were very dirty and the folding chair was covered in dark mould) and the overall apperance of the room was very poor. The balcony door was covered in dampness and had a puddle of water on the floor inside the room. There were cups but no saucers or teaspoons.
We went to the bar to have a drink. We asked for some crisps or nuts but the guy said they did not have any and he could go and get any because he was covering reception too. I also went to the toilets while there. The toilets were filthy with faeces all over both toilets. I could not use them so went back to the room. I spoke to the manager saying the toilets need cleaned as they are very dirty.
We went to the dining room to have dinner and were taken into the room at the back, the chair seats were very dirty - thank goodness I did not have anything white on. I noticed that on the tables we were sat at the napkins were paper ones but the guests who were seated in the conservatory had linen ones.
After dinner we went to the reception area to have a coffee, we asked at the bar if we could order it there. The barman said no you need to get waiting staff to do it. We did ordered some coffee but when we got it it was cold and undrinkable.
We decided to go back to the room when we approached the bedroom door we noticed that an emergency fire door was jammed opened with a big brick. We felt very uneasy about this and decided enough was enough. We went to reception and said we wanted to check out. We were very diappointed when the receptionist went to tell the manager, he came back saying she was a little busy but asked if we could fill in a comments sheet.
We went back to the room to pack our stuff and then went to reception and the manager was there. We told her our complaints and she simply was not concerned at all.
Very disappointed - we have stayed here 5 times previously and sadly the quality has declined. The location is beautiful but the hotel is dreadful.
