“Fresh chunky sandwiches”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 22, 2012

We dropped in for a late lunch. As we were going on to Lucknam park for dinner we only had sandwiches, great doorsteps, very good flavour bread. As a breadmaker I appreciated them.

“Gone downhill of late.”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed November 21, 2012

My first date was here, so upon returning I had high hopes and fond memories. The reality? The windows are dirty, the seating is cracked, the fire not warming, the food lacklustre and the space claustrophobic. Being an ancient coaching in, it relies more on it's history than it's ability to preform as a current eatery.

“Not as we remember it”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed November 19, 2012

As relative locals we have In the past used this establishment regularly for both social and business occasions and had always enjoyed both the food and ambience. It is after all a very old building in a National Trust village. It absolutely oozes character and serves good beer. However for no particular reason it has been off our eaterie circuit for the past 3 or 4 years so we were really looking forward to having a night out with friends there on the 17th November. Naturally the building is still as wonderful and so is the beer, but oh my the food is not what is was. It now has a somewhat reduced menu with no sign of the specials that used to tempt you to go off piste. It may suffice as a lunch menu but it really does not work for us for an evening meal offering. We likened it to that offered in a good town centre cafe or a works canteen. Worse still was the quality of the finished product - mediocre food in the extreme and served on almost cold plates which is always no no for us. No complaint about the prices if the food had been up to scratch. The only meaningful constant was the waitress who has been there for years and is an absolute joy to be served by. It will be a while before we eat there again but no doubt we will still use the bar when we have visitors who want to see Lacock

“Proper traditional pub in a National Trust'ies heaven”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 17, 2012

A great pub for lunch, ok beer selection but very warm welcome and atmosphere. Let's be clear, this is a very old pub in Lacock, which is a beautifully preserved quintessential English village. Cranford and a couple of Harry Potter's and The Other Bolelyn Girl were filmed here so you get the idea, fabulously pretty Cotswold village. The George is perfectly in situ. An ok beer selection, and reasonably wide menu, with traditional British pub grub.

We ate on a Saturday lunchtime in November, all had very tasty sandwiches made from very delicious bread, apparently from the baker in the village.

Very nice lunch, warm and inviting pub, just right for a post National Trust

“Sunday Lunch”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 14, 2012

On the 11th November my husband and I stopped for lunch in Lacock. We were recommended the George we hadn't booked but they managed to find us a table. The sevice was friendly and welcoming and our lunch arrived promptly, it was very tastey but could have been just a little hotter. We would certainly go again
