“Beautiful Spot!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 18, 2011

We were very impressed with the large wigwams. Very clean and well looked after. The site couldn't be better placed on the coast. Spent lots of time on the beach as we were lucky with the weather. The midges got a bit bad on the day we left but that was simply as the weather had turned damp. Toilet and shower blocks were basic but fine. The shop is well stocked and reasonably priced. We loved the area and would deffo go back again.

Just came home from a weeks stay here in our big family tent. We were lucky with the weather as it was dry and sunny all week except for one day. Midges were hellish and we tried every repellent going, Smidge seemed to be the best one! Site was lovely and we pitched up near the main road away from the main tent area round the swings etc, a bit more space. Toilet facilities were immaculate and the shop very well priced. Staff very helpful and pleasant. Dogs not a problem at all and laundry facilities great. Beach was lovely, we tended to avoid it as we wanted to go to quieter beaches where we could let the dog run free without worrying about her with small children. Would definitely return to this site but would have to kill all midges first!!

We stayed here for two nights in July 2011. First time we have been back for several years. I forgot what a lovelysite it is. Lots of space for camping, lovely beach, great location and well kept facilites. If you want a little more peace then pitch away from the play area but this did not worry us.

All the pitch areas are spacious and you will not get boxed in.

We hired a canoe for the whole dayfor just £20; great value. The bay is safe to swim and use boats with clear clean water; with the odd jelly fish. A good place for families with young children.

It is dog friendly and there is no evidence of dog mess. Owners were all responsible.

Take a good insect repellent and sun cream. It can get warm enough for sun burn so don't be fooled by the fact that it is so far north.

It would be a great place to stay in mid summer with the long days.

There is a good well stock shop on site.

It would be worth staying for longer as there is a lot to do in the area;especially if you like the outdoors.

Room Tip: Insect repellent and warm cloths for the evenning even in summer.

Just back from a two night stay in the wigwams. Quite enjoyable all round really, fantastic scenery and a lovely beach. I think the park could do with being extended a bit, not too much in it which was fine in April as the site was quiet but in the busy summer months I would have thought it would be an improvement if it was larger. The wigwams were as you would expect, and cosy! The toilets and washing facilities are very good, very clean. There is a large kitchen hall which is very handy for cooking/eating in the bad weather, this also has a fridge and freezer that can be used.Wouldn't suggest a trip in April, I think it's too early in the year, it's very windy and chilly, we were not able to sit outside at all. Summer time would be nice but I have heard that the midgies are torture so be warned!

We stayed in one of the bigger wigwams just for the one night on our trip up north. The wigwam was really nice and very conveniently located for the toilet block etc. In general the site was very nice, all the tents etc that we could see were well spaced out and there seemed to be a good level of facilities on site. The toilet/shower block was huge and very clean and well maintained. The wee on-site shop had just about everything you could ever need and the staff did the job though they weren't the perkiest when we spoke to them :p

We unfortunately went to The Old Inn for dinner, the service was shocking and the food wasn't fantastic either, so i'd avoid that one if you can!

We go every couple of years to Big Sands. In all we have probably been about 6 times and I am about to book again for this year. What we love about the site is the location and views which in my opinion must be about the best in the world. The site is large and kind of sprawled out, you never have people cramped on top of you. We have stayed in their wigwams and also taken our own tent. This year we will be taking a trailer tent and we know there will be masses of space. The facilities are good. Really good loos and showers and good laundry. The shop on site is well stocked and you can get fresh bread rolls and pastries every morning. The other thing we like about the site are the family who run it. We remember one epic year catching a record breaking trout near Oban. We travelled with it to Gairloch where we stayed for a few days before going further North then coming back to Gairloch again. The staff kept the fish for us well wrapped up in their freezer all that time and provided us with insulation to keep it fresh all the way back to North Yorkshire. This is our top camping site x

me and my boyfriend stayed here for about a week here last yr (been 3 times now)
the site has really good facilities toilets/showers never too far away. All facilities clean. campsite has a 20ft (im sure) separation rule, so tents caravans etc cant get too close! although u do get sum rude people that dont abide by this rule! we ended up movin our tent but they still managed to locate it and walk right by it at times - suppose ur always going to get inconsiderate people anywhere!
campsite has a good equipped shop although some prices are a little expensive.
midges are sometimes a little bother at certain times of the year so have a good midge headnet if u are camping and hav to cook outside! also take good repellent - i use avon skin so soft, seems to do the job! all staff are pleasant. campsite is very big but the beach is never too far away (have to clamber over sand dunes to get there) although campsite is usually very busy in summer there is always space! has a small swing park 4 kids. when on the beach there are lovely views over to different island - longa island and im sure the top of skye.
