We holiday in Gairloch quite regularly, but hadn't stayed since this restaurant changed to Na Mara. We had heard good things about it, though, and decided that we had to give it a try.
On our first visit we tried their "Fish Tea", £6.95 for Haddock, chips, bread and butter and a mug of tea. With a pretty significant fish and a good pile of chips it really was excellent value, but more importantly it was also really tasty. We followed this with their sticky toffee pudding, which was possibly the best that I have ever had. The generous portions were too much for the gf, so I chivalrously helped her out.
Having been so impressed by simple fish and chips, we made a second booking before we even left the restaurant, deciding that we were going to sample something from their extremely inviting menu. So, on our second visit we tried the venison burger (gf) and the medallions of vension (me). Best vension I have ever had (can't comment on the burger, coz I wasn't allowed to try it!). Cheese and biscuits (gf) and raspberry cheesecake (me) to follow. Cheesecake was amazng, and covered liberally with rasps. Cheese and biccies also very good - they even gave us a doggie bag so that we could take the remnants home.
Need to make a special mention of the fact that we had our little boy (two and a half) with us on both occasions. We really felt that they had made an effort to welcome families - the staff were all really good and the childrens menu appeared to have been written for him. First visit, we chose macaroni for him, second visit he chose pizza himself. Both dishes were very good, but the pizza especially was very tasty. It was really nice that the childrens menu wasn't just an afterthought. A nice touch also that they had special menus for kids, with games, things to do and colouring in.
We loved Na Mara. The food was excellent. The staff were friendly and helpful. We will be back!
