Visited the Shieling on a wet and windy Saturday night. Although quiet (not surprising given the time of year and the weather) the restaurant was warm and welcoming. The staff were friendly and attentive without being 'in your face'. We sampled the bottled ales which were served lovely and cold. A jug of iced water was also brought to the table, which was also very welcome.
I had rib-eye steak with all the trimmings, lovely fresh veg and delicious crispy chips. OH opted for the cottage pie and like the previous reviewer thought a family portion had been delivered to the table! The food was delicious, fresh and piping hot. Would definitely recommend this and will be back any time we are in the area.
