I stayed at the Auld Alliance from 26th to 28th February 2013.
Being a Tour-guide/mini-coach driver I spend MOST of my working life in numerous types of accommodation throughout Scotland, each year and so can speak from very much first-hand experience.
Having E-mailed Corinne beforehand, I was offered a double-room en-suite. I arrived just after 6pm having meandered my way up from Edinburgh. The house is very easy to find.
Corinne greeted me enthusiastically and showed me to the 'French Room'. I was the only guest staying and this room apparently has the best views of the surrounding mountains and Loch. She made sure I knew where everything was and how to operate it all.
The room is tastefully decorated and a lovely size, with plenty of room to spread out your belongings. A flat screen Satellite tv/ with DVD player, coffee/tea making facilities and local information are all provided.
The bathroom/toilet is really fresh and again very spacious. Everything is beautifully clean.
Simple little touches, but things that you remember made my stay all that more enjoyable:- filling my kettle up for my return each evening; offering a copy of the local papers; suggesting things/places I could visit each day.
The breakfast was scrumptious and I looked forward to the conversations that Corinne and I engaged in. Thankfully, I was in no real need to hurry off for my day's adventures, having been to the area many times before.
The house is about a 5 minute drive from Gairloch itself and so very easy access to shops, restaurants, bank, fuel, Tourist Information Centre, Community Centre/Sports Centre and all other places of interest.
Ed is an amazing photographer and his prints are available to view in the downstairs hall area and throughout the house. I finally met him on my last morning and I found I was still engrossed in conversation with him and Corinne two and half hours later!
I hope to return in the not too distant future.
I feel I have gained two new lovely friends...what more of a recommendation can I give the Duncans?
Only two front-facing rooms available.
