“Great location, shame about parking and dog facilities”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 3, 2012 via mobile

Great food and location, but I would expect for a inn that takes dogs to have facilities to walk them, the nearest piece of grass was ten mins away which if you are a dog owner in the early hours, and the rain, was not ideal. Also parking was problematic.

Recently discovered the gem of a location that Alnmouth is. Really stunning village on a great setting. Booked the Hope and Anchor as they accepted dogs and we had to have a dog with us on this trip. Pub/Hotel is right in the main street of the village and you can walk to everywhere from it including the beach. Parking is in short supply, maybe as it was a weekend but you can just park on the edge of the village and walk. Great reception and obviously get regular visitors with dogs. Food was excellent and great to experience a dog friendly bar. Room was clean and practical. Only negative was the cost £90 for a night opens up a lot of choice.

I'm with my family on holliday in wooler and went out for a day to alnmouth and came across The Hope & anchor. Had a look at the menu and we agreed this was the place! There was only one staff member there but he was wonderfull, and very good looking!;) After ordering food it took a little longer than thought but was all freashly made. It was a good amount of food just right. The food was absoulty amazing. We woud definatly recmondend it. Do not be put off by one bad review!

Don't be put off by one bad review. It's a small pub, i'm not surprised they couldn't cope with 40 people just turning up all wanting food at once - it's not McDonalds. Service was very good, helpful, friendly staff. nice homely bar & the homemade food was delicious. Dog friendly so great for walkers too. Will definitely eat here again if we're in the area.

We eat here everytime we visit Alnmouth, if its sunny we eat in the garden and at other times indoors, they open up the dining room at lunchtimes if its too busy in the bar.
The food is always A1 and last time we ate there there were 6 of us and the service was impeccable, no mistakes and everything cooked fresh and to order, if you want a dessert opt for the smaller portions.
It was a busy day, the Alnmouth Art festival, when we last ate there and the staff didn't seem stressed by being busy at all.
Yes the decor is a bit dated in the bar but the dining room is fine but its a refreshing change from the chain restaurants.

This pub has ZERO customer care skills!
They recently had a party of 40 people in for dining (half of the pub) and they were turning people away for food stating "they couldnt cope". The pub was only half full and they were panicing! People were also looking at the very poor menu and walking out.
Its peak season, get more or better staff!!!!!!

Stayed here for 2 nights with our dog.
Rooms are old but very comfortable and well set up
Food was fantastic, British pub grub at its best and good portions (their fish and chips were awesome).
Lovely staff and owners, god breakfast and Alnmouth is a little gem of a place!
