MY hubby and I have just returned from a stay at this wonderful place. We had the Abbots Retreat for 1 night and it was worth EVERY PENNY! The room is just HUGE! The brass four-poster bed is just HUGE! The bathroom is just HUGE! (Get the picture??) The view from the rooms windows look right onto the ruins of Byland Abbey, at night they are floodlit, this I discovered as I came out of the bathroom in the early evening and looked through the window. My husband and I were just speechless!
The bathroom is so very smart in black and white, with a wonderful roll-top bath, my advice is to take candles and soak up the bubbles and the stunning romance of the period bathroom. To help you unwind in your bath is a vast array of goodies. Oils, creams, sprays, everything you may need to feel pampered while flaoting about in that wonderful bath, right down to the thickest bathrooms to wrap yourself in.
In the room is a wooden chest of different wines that you can help yourself to for a modest "honesty" charge of £12.75 a bottle.
You have your own little dining table and it was a decadent treat to order a fabulous meal and eat it at our own table enjoying our room and our stunning view.
Breakfast comes to your room and is just as good as dinner! For me a full english (sausages, farm bacon, mushrooms, black pudding, tomatoes, free range eggs) My husband had the lighter continental (pastries etc, fresh yoghurt, fresh raspberries, fresh blackberries)
Then for both of us, cereal, toast, preserves, coffee and frest orange!!!!!!!!
Checkout is late..11.30am so that gives you plenty of time to digest your breakie, maybe with another soak in that bath!
There is a cd player and cds to choose from, a tv and video with videos to watch.
Infact ANYTHING you want, you can have. The staff and owners seem to run this hotel just for the pleasure of their guests!
The other 2 rooms are lovely, but alittle small, but then, after staying in the best room in the house, anything else will always come up alittle short.
The price of the room was'nt cheap £155.00 including breakfast. Dinner was about£50. But It was nothing less that superb!!!!
My last words..GO GO GO!!!
