“Good eating experience”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 21, 2013

We tried the Roadmaker on the basis of local recommendations and those on Tripadvisor. The fact that the main restaurant was full on a Wednesday night suggested that they were not wrong. We, a party of four, ate in the restaurant bar and shared a number of tasty main courses which were well cooked and presented with a quality of ingredient not always associated with Asian restaurants. The staff were friendly and responsive if not overly attentive. An excellent mix for us. We shall certainly visit again and look forward to further exploring the menu. The prices were fairly pitched reflecting the quality of the ingredients and the portions were sufficient. Book early.

“Fantastic - always”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 16, 2013

After being told about this place many years ago, we finally wnet last June and cannot stay away. Be it Nepalese fare in the evenings or the finest Sunday roast, we have never had a bad meal. The welcome is always warm and it is definitely worth the 40 minute drive out. Try it - you'll love it!

“Best Curry South of Birmingham....”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 10, 2013

What can I say about The Roadmakers, an absolute gem, as a born & bred Brummie the curries served here are without doubt amongst the best I have eaten...
Always excellent service from the Ghurka families who own and run the restaurant.
Well worth a visit, but book first!!

“First time and hopefully not the last, but book early!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 9, 2013

Lots of local recommendations for this restaurant, the appeal of a restaurant run by ex-Gurka soldiers was appealing and we weren't disappointed. Everything was done with military precision.

The place is a pub come Indian/Nepalese restaurant. Which is quite unusual but works ok. The menu has all the traditional dishes on, but also has a lot of really enticing dishes, that you might never have seen or tasted before.

Six of us had a great meal and were served very professionally. Unusual though that in this part of the world everything seems to close and go home at 11pm.......we were waiting for one of the few taxis in the areas for nearly an hour and we were the only ones in the place at 11.30.

If you are in this area for a couple of nights this should be a definite booking and a second night at the Kilcott Manor pub which we visited but didn't eat in, had we been there longer we would have given that a try and reported back.

“Consistently excellent!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 9, 2013

An excellent selection of Indian and Nepalese dishes, what I particularly like is that most of the dishes on the menu can be served as hot or as mild as you wish; you can still have the particular spices in a dish but with or without the chilli heat. While the Indian dishes are the "usual" selection, what makes "The Roadmaker" different is the range of Nepalese dishes available; run by ex-Gurkhas (with the obligatory picture of Joanna Lumley behind the bar), they offer distinctly different dishes, such as Chhoyala (Lamb or chicken marinated in chilli and lime) and Hariyali (cooked in a mint sauce with mustard oil and seed).
If you're in the Ross/Newent/Ledbury area, this place is well worth a visit.
