My husband and I have stayed here twice before on wine tasting breaks and found the food, wine, service and accomodation to be excellant. So, as part of his Christmas present I decided to book a night at the 3 Choirs as part of a short break. I noticed that mid-week rates are much cheaper on laterooms.com if you wait until the last minute, as we were booking at an unpopular time of year (mid-week in January) I decided to risk it. However, in the end, I didn't need to go through laterooms as the 3 Choirs web-site offered £50 off bookings until the end of Feb giving a discount code to use with on-line bookings. However when I tried to book on-line there was no-where to ut the discount code and when I tried to ring the 3 Choirs there was no answer on several occasions. When the phone was answered I was greeted by a slightly surley woman who told me I would ahve to ring the company who managed their web-site!! I pointed out that it was the 3 Choirs site - not a third party - therefore I would anticipate they could deal with it. I did eventually obtain the booking with the £50 off.
The booking experience made me quite nervous about slippage in standards since our last visit - particularly after reading some negative viewings on this site, however I am happy to report no cuase for concern. On our arrival we were checked in by friendly, competant staff. Our spacious room was clean and bright with complementary chocs. The dinner and breakfast were gorgeous, served by enthusiastic waiting staff.
I think that the wine tasting breaks in the summer are reasonable value - given the extras included and the fantastic views. However I would tend to agree with some other reviewers that the rooms are overpriced when out of season and particularly mid-week. I did that some thought needs to be given to attracting more custom in these quiet times.
