“Great ales and food”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 17, 2012

We landed in harwich late, and found this old sailors pub tucked away in the lanes. The landlady welcomed our exhausted (from a days sailing) selves, with lobster and a great selection of ales, we were even offered a blanket!! The food here is all hand made, and you can see someone has put a great deal of passion in. Best pub in harwich.

“Thoroughly Recommend”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 21, 2012

After walking the, most interesting, Harwich Maritime Heritage Trail, we went to The Alma for lunch (on recommendation from local resident). Nice pub, clean, not too noisy, traditional atmosphere, polite and friendly staff. Very good home-cooked food at reasonable prices. Would definitely eat there again.

“One Great Pub”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 23, 2012

This was our second visit to The Alma, and it was every bit as satisfying as the first. The pub is friendly and welcoming - Carla is a great addition to the staff - and the food is first rate. The fish are fresh and cleverly prepared, and we enjoyed everything we ordered. The Aspall cider on tap is a tasty plus!

“A Great Gastropub”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 24, 2012

The Alma has all the qualities of a proper old fashioned pub,but with a fantastic menu.
The selection of beers are superb (mainly Adnams),But also local Harwich brewery as well.the bar snacks are great, rollmops, olives, smoked meats.
I had Chorizo hash to start with,Then Iberico spare ribs, they were very nice.the location of the pub is in the heart of Harwich old town
The pub has a great atmosphere, and i can thoroughly recommend it. .
