“Good, but expensive”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 12, 2013

Just spent 2 nights in room 47, would not recommend this room as, noisy and no views, it backs onto walkway to the Cobb, so have lots of people outside of bedroom and toilet window, walking past etc etc. Not warned noisy when booked. But I am sure if we had had a different room with the stunning views possible we would have a different opinion. Otherwise room was lovely and clean.

They do charge for ice bucket! so we used sink! they do charge £5 for dvd player - why? not that we wanted to use it.

Excellent food and service in restaurant. difficult parking, so be warned! or go early!

Grumpy owner should take note and learn from the rest of her staff when it comes to customer service! Smiles would help! Thanks to all the other members of staff who made our stay worthwhile.

It was good, but very expensive for what you get, so will probably not be returning!

Room Tip: Dont have room 47

A return visit to a lovely traditional hotel, ideal location. Room with fantastic views across the bay, staff friendly, and helpful. We ate in the restaurant twice. The standard of food is variable. Unfotunately the food does not live up to its description of fine dining and high price. Overall, we thoroughly enjoyed a relaxing break.

Room Tip: Sea view room a must. !!

What a location! What a view! What fabulous gardens! Wonderful food, friendly staff and an all round well deserved top spot in Lyme Regis to visit! We made an extra early start on bank holiday weekend to enjoy breakfast. Perfect hollandaise on the eggs benedict & local produce on offer too.

We enjoyed our stay very much and wouldn't hesitate to recommend it to others.

Good things:
Fantastic location with stunning views Close to the high street, the centre and the Cob Well appointed bedroom with large comfortable bed Bedroom and bathroom spotlessly clean The public rooms had a warm and welcoming atmosphere with comfortable furniture A great choice of games (Scrabble etc) for visitors. All staff very friendly and always helpful, including reception, restaurant, bar and cleaning staff Great breakfasts (included in the price) with a good range of hot dishes. Imaginative and delicious fresh fish dishes in the evening.

Not so good things:
We visited during April 2013, during the very cold winter. Howling drafts were blowing in through sash windows of our room. When asked why they couldn’t be double glazed, staff explained that the building was listed so alterations not possible. However, I can’t believe that the old wooden sash windows couldn’t be replaced with appropriate new wooden windows that actually fitted. We were reduced to stuffing bits of rolled up paper down the cracks. To be fair, the staff were very helpful and provided us with a fire.
Canned music in the dining room. Same canned music at every meal.
Whilst we ate great fish dishes at almost every meal, for a change, we chose duck for one meal. Sadly it was a great slab of tough, rubbery meat.

Because of poor weather, we couldn't experience all the hotel had to offer such as the lovely lawn and gardens, croquet, etc. It must be particularly wonderful to stay here in the summertime. Book spa treatments well in advance, as we tried to book a massage 24 hrs in advance and couldn't get a booking.

Room Tip: If you want a great sea view, ask for one. Some rooms are quite a few stairs to climb, so check tha...

We have just come back from our 5th visit to this wonderful hotel. Breath taking location, delicious food and friendly staff. Lovely room with very comfortable bed. Weather was perfect this time too. We hope to visit again before too long.

Stayed with my wife last week as this lovely hotel. Position overlooking The Cobb could not be better. Views from room ( No 27) great. The hotel is well presented and the staff from reception through to the waiters were very polite, friendly as well as being professional. The dinner in the restaurant was enjoyable and the breakfast was excellent, both from the buffet and menu choice for a hot meal.
The only negative was timing of meal on the second night. Having booked a table for 7.30PM and arriving at 7.10PM for a pre dinner drink, we were not taken to our table until 7.50PM and our first course did not arrive until 8.25PM. Main course then arrived as soon as first course cleared ( more attention needs to be paid to timings). However, having pointed out the problem to the head waiter we found that on checkout our wine had been deleted from the bill. Nice touch.
Would definitely stay at the hotel again, if in the area.

Room Tip: Try and book sea facing room.

I now travel alone to this hotel, in short bursts. I have stopped looking for elsewhere to stay, simply because I am never made to feel as an awkward extra. I only have to ask and the service is provided. Ispent my birthday here, totally alone, but I was not lonely. The staff were helpful, welcoming and the restaurant even provided me with a beautiful dinner on the night of my birthday. I will be returning in July, and hope the intervening time will pass swiftly.
