Description: The Volunteer Inn is a family-run, seventeenth century pub located in the heart of Lyme Regis in Dorset. One of the only remaining pubs on the high street, The Volunteer sells a range of local ales and ciders and has been a regular in the Good Beer Guide and a CAMRA member for over a decade. Although famous for it's ales, the Volunteer now also serves excellent food offering a daily changing menu.

“A good inn”

The food was very fresh, very well cooked and presented and the staff very attentive. The bar itself was very friendly and lively.

“Great local pub for a quiet drink!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 6, 2013

Since ne and Hannah don't actually drink pubs have never interested us, but we thought well lets just go in and get a fruit juice or something. We went quite late so it was practically just locals in the pub which was perfect we got chatting to one guy and we were made to feel so welcome we went back again and again.

“A locals' pub”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 4, 2013

Good ales (one served from barrels behind the bar, three others on handpump) and good simple pub grub. Seems to be popular with the locals - although they can get a little raucous at times.

“Keep going back”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 2, 2013

Every time we're in Lyme, we visit this pub. They are apparently offering great food now but this wasn't on offer in the evenings we visited. Our main reason for going back is that it doesn't really change - it's still a pub! The beer from the barrel was great and the atmosphere worth experiencing. There was a good mix of locals and tourists seeking refuge from the unseasonable weather and it remains one of our favourite pubs.

“Great pub great beer great food !!!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 17, 2013 via mobile

A proper pub - nothing pretentious about it - what you see is what you get.

Get in here whenever we are in lyme - my husband rates the beers and their Guinness is good ( I was brought up next to the Guinness brewery in Dublin!)

Had the pleasure of chatting to the lovely Joe a few times - god bless him - a great man.

Service is straightforward - just how it should be. This feels like a local pub - yet is often full of tourists - all treated the same way.

Looking forward to seeing the restaurant when finished.
