Rumours has closed. Down in Lyme Regis on holiday and went to get a table but it is now the Purple Parsnip.

“Disapointed”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed February 4, 2013

I booked this restaurant on tripadvisor reviews and was disappointed. Whether it was the fact that the weather was foul and it was end of season, I don't know, but we seem to have got an 'off' night. The front if house lady, who I presume is the owners wife, was pleasant enough but not particularly welcoming. She seemed a bit fed up. There were 4 tables of diners during our evening there. The place lacked atmosphere. The food was average and portions on the small side, and I thought it was expensive for what we got. I don't mind paying more for good food but I do expect a decent serving. Wouldn't go back to this one, sorry.

“Great food, great atmosphere”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 2, 2012

We stayed an extra night in Lyme Regis so that we could visit here. An excellent decision - the food was cooked to perfection, and although we were the only other couple there at the time, it did not matter as we had a great time. Highly recommended.

“Treats de Mer”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 10, 2012

Advertised as a “Fruits de Mer” restaurant and rightly so: just two minutes’ walk from the seafront with fish dishes expertly cooked. Occupies a corner site on a fairly steep hill, so you enter through large glass doors and step down into the dining area. Unstuffy but attentive service from Alan and Brenda, who establish a good rapport with their customers. Closed on Sundays (at least out of season) so don’t miss out by turning up without checking first.

“Fish heaven!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 2, 2012

We visited on a Monday evening and the restaurant had 4 other couples dining. The menu is fish based but includes a selection of meat and veggies options. We chose the sea bass and turbot as main courses. The sea bass was dressed with scallions and ginger which I found a little overpowering and the fish was a tad over cooked. The turbot had a cream sauce and was cooked to perfection. Accompanying vegetables were well cooked too. A good bottle of New Zealand <arlborough Cab. Sauv. went down very well. We were well looked after and would be happy to return to Rumours when next in Lyme Regis
