“Sadly no atmosphere...”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 2, 2012

Its a pity that the dining room lacks atmosphere as this spoiled what would have been a quality night.

Upon arrival we were shown to a pleasant lounge for pre-dinner drinks and a chance to peruse the menu. When we were ready we were escorted through to the restaurant where which is a bit bare and spartan. Its clean and tidy, but minimalistic almost to a fault and not at all cosy or atmospheric.

The food was served promptly and efficiently by reasonably friendly staff, and whilst we enjoyed ourselves, it was just a little too quiet for our liking.

The starters were excellent, and the main courses were OK - not anywhere near bad enough to complain about, but just OK.

“Delicious!”

Excellent selection of food and drink. The food was good quality, tasty and the 'right size' portion.

“Lovely service”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 25, 2012

Visited the Mariners for lunch and arrived late (about half an hour before the kitchen was due to close) and then had to wait for others to arrive, but despite the obvious inconvenience we were putting the staff to (we were the only people eating) they were friendly and helpful and very polite! The food was lovely and good value for money at 12 pounds for two courses, both of which were generous portions! The only thing I would say is that as a vegetarian if I didn't like goat's cheese then there wouldn't be much I could eat, but it's just as well that I do and both starter and main were lovely and left me so full I couldn't finish my tortellini!

“Very poor service, unhelpful and unfriendly atmosphere”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed July 24, 2012

Visited the Mariners Restaurant this Sunday for a coffee with my mother, who is in a wheelchair and my sister whilst on holiday in Lyme Regis. Arrived about 11.30am to be met by the Manager who in the most unfriendly manner said if we wanted coffee in the garden we would have to come back into the restrauant to order. When we asked how to get to the gardens he just pointed the way. No sign of any of the charm or friendly atmosphere that is being advertised in their publicity, no help of any kind with the wheelchair whilst negotiating several steep steps. No tea cake or scone could be offered with coffee although we requested this for our mother. We were clearly being treated as an inconvenience because they were preparing for Sunday lunch. Luckily for us the service in other restrauants we visited was 1st class, whatever we were ordering. If the Mariners don't want to be bothered with morning coffee on a Sunday then they shouldn't advertise it!
