“Perfect place to stay for complete relaxation with very friendly hosts”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 6, 2013

My husband and I stayed for two nights in October. Amanda greeted us warmly and made us very welcome. The bedroom was cosy and warm, very clean and the bed was everso comfortable. The bathroom was large with a good powerful shower with nice thick towels.

In the morning we really enjoyed our breakfast and there was a good choice. It was well cooked and hot and served to us by Michael who was very friendly and helpful. We arranged also to have an evening meal. This was done very nicely and we enjoyed eating with the other guests. It is a small family run hotel, full of character and we felt very happy and relaxed here. Its situated in a little lane and is very quiet. It has a pretty garden, a comfortable lounge and a little room with the bar.

We hope to come again and would definitely recommend it to others

Stayed her for 2 nights late August with work colleagues and 2 patients. The owners, Mike and Amanda could simply not do enough for us and were very understanding of our needs. Early breakfast/takeaway was required as we had a very early start one morning and this was met without hesitation. Breakfast is beyond perfect. Put simply, the best full English breakfast I've had by a million miles! Rooms are very clean and finished to an extremely high standard. I would not hesitate, not for a second to stay here again. Exquisite, elegant, luxury, divine!!! Book it now! What are you waiting for!!!

My wife and I stayed at the Harrabeer from 19th to 23rd August 2013 to go to a wedding in Plymouth and turned it into a four night mini-break. As soon as we pulled into the car park we were warmly greeted by Mike and he assisted us to our room with the luggage. We had the great pleasure of staying in room 1, the largest and with a view over Dartmoor. It was tastefully decorated and spotlessly clean, with three steps down into the en-suite bathroom, complete with bath, shower and bidet. I wish we could have brought the bed home with us as it was so big and exceedingly comfortable ! The room was serviced daily to a very high standard. Absolute luxury all round ! We unpacked before making the 10 minute drive to Tavistock for a bite to eat before returning for a very good nights sleep. The following morning we had an early breakfast, in the well presented and spotlessly clean dining room, before taking the 20 minute journey into Plymouth for the wedding. Mike was serving and was very attentive. He has a similar Basil Fawlty sense of humour to mine and banter was passed every day. The Full English Breakfast was served to perfection and there is a wide variety of choice and combination as an alternative. The sausage, eggs, bacon and black pudding are locally sauced from the village butchers and the black pudding was perfect, and I say that as a black pudding connoisseur ! Mike and Amanda are great hosts, so genuinely friendly and helpful, a mine of information and nothing is too much trouble for them. The rooms and location of the Harrabeer are so quiet and it is ideally situated for exploring Dartmoor, its villages and Plymouth beyond. Even the Eden Project is only about an hour away and very well worth a visit. We would have no hesitation whatsoever in recommending the Harrabeer and would definitely stay there again. Thank you Amanda and Mike for your great hospitality for our four night stay.

Room Tip: Worth paying just a little more for room 1 if it is available.

What a find! Michael & Amanda are lovely hosts, from the first welcoming email through the time we left. We arrived in the evening after a long day and were shown to our room...along with our dog! It's a realy plus finding somewhere nice that welcomes dogs! This is a wonderful family run hotel...actually, more like a B&B since breakfast is included and all the comforts of home. Michael has such a colorful personality, I was constantly laughing at things he said. It's a nice location for exploring Dartmoor. We stayed there for 2 days while driving around and seeing sites...everything is withing 30-40 minutes. We booked a smaller room, and it was quite adequate even considering we had a dog with us. We were given the option of a larger room but since we were only using it to sleep, we stayed in the smaller room. The beds were comfortable, couldn't hear any noise from other rooms, everything super clean, tea/coffee in room and thoughtful bathroom supplies...in addition to the usual shampoo and conditioner there were cotton swabs, nail file, and shower cap. And the breakfast was VERY good with fresh fruit smoothies every morning! Lovely home, lovely hosts, lovely time. What more could you ask for?

My family (2 teenage children, husband & dog!) all stayed here for 2 nights back in June. Amanda and Michael are fabulous hosts and have a fantastic sense of humour! We were warmly greeted by Amanda who served us with a pot of tea on arrival after our drive down from Wiltshire. My children were in a twin bedded room (with their own bathroom just outside their room) whilst my husband and I were in a double with ensuite next door. It was small but perfectly adequate for our needs and comfortable. The house is tastefully decorated, very clean and has a very homely feel! Lots of character! Breakfast was great, lots of choice and generous. Also there is a lovely little bar area with huge fireplace to relax and have a natter! We went down to stay on a very wet weekend so couldn't access the garden.

I wouldn't hesitate to return next time we're back in Plymouth.

Wouldn't hesitate to stay here again.

Stayed here for one night as attending a wedding locally. Arrived after a 3 hour journey and was presented with cream tea in the garden. Room and en-suite immaculate and very comfortable. Breakfast among the best ever. Hosts friendly and welcoming. Only wished I could have stayed a bit longer.

When researching places to stay everyone does the homework, and reviews the place to see if that is what is required. Having researched this hotel on Trip Advisor, I was not disappointed, and all the great reviews of the place and the people are correct. The owners Mike and Amanda show exceptional "People Skills", and would be a great couple to teach hotel skills to people wanting to get into the trade. Nothing is too much trouble, and the place has been tastefully furnished for all guests. I could go on for longer but would only repeat what others have said. Amanda noticed when we arrived that my wife was carrying a carrier bag with happy birthday on, she asked if it was her birthday and she confirmed it was the next day. At breakfast we were seated by a banner which said "happy birthday" plus a gift of chocolates, an extra touch which was very much appreciated.
If you wish to go out for an evening meal, I would highly recommend River Cottage Canteen in Royal William Yard, Plymouth, great views, great history, superb ambiance.

Room Tip: The master room has great views of the moors.
