We were so pleased that we had found this outstanding Guest House. Amanda and Michael are the perfect hosts, starting with the friendly welcome on arrival followed by a mini Devonshire cream tea! The Harrabeer has a wonderful homely atmosphere and the food is 'truly scrumptious' cooked to perfection by Amanda.
Michael has a lovely way of keeping everyone happy with his good hearted humour.Nothing is too much trouble and it's a great place to relax.
We fully recommend the Harrabeer as we cannot fault it!

Room Tip: Room 1 is the largest with the best views but all are first class.

Amanda and Michael are arguably the nicest hosts you could wish for and certainly made our two night stay at the Harabeer. As per other reviews, you are warmly greeted with a great cup of tea and cake or mini cream tea and you are made to feel like VIP guests !. Upon return from trips, again, tea and a peice of cake are offered. We stayed in a standard room, which offered really good value for money. There was plenty of complimentary drinks to choose from in the room, toiletries, sewing kit etc, but I am sure if anything was needed, then Michael or Amanda would try to meet all needs. Breakfast is lovely and served with a smile..fresh fruit salad every day too. We had been booked in on a gourmet dinner break, We jokingly mentioned it to be a romantic dinner for two and Michael popped on some romantic music and we had a lovely candelit dinner...............almost too much to eat but lovely! The hotel itself is well placed for the moors and also many national trust properties to visit. If you want the beach, then head over to Cornwall for great beaches too.

Room Tip: Pay a little more for a room if possible as the suite etc are lovely big rooms.

Harrabeer Country House Hotel is a real find. The bedrooms are beautifully comfortable with lots of extra touches. We stayed in bedroom 1 which is the Master bedroom. It has a huge bed, quality furnishings and a wonderful en suite bathroom. There was even a pair of binoculars to view the wonderful scenery over Dartmoor. Breakfast was excellent with lots of choice and quality food. Evening meal can be pre-booked, is beautifully prepared and is excellent value for money. There is a stunning Vicotrian sitting room complete with plump cushioned sofas and a chaise. The bar area has a friendly welcoming atmosphere. The proprietors, Michael and Amanda are warm and welcoming and are full of fun. Nothing it too much trouble for them, ask and you shall receive. This hotel is ideal for everything from a romantic break to a walking holiday over nearby dartmoor. Can't wait to go again.

Room Tip: The Master bedroom is well worth the little extra cost. Absolutely beautiful.

What a find! This is a magnificent, small family run hotel which treats guests like friends. Wonderful location, dog friendly, comfortable rooms, lovely meals; quite home from home. It's difficult to add anything to the other reviews except to endorse them. Perfect in everyway from the welcoming email until we said our goodbyes. Recommended without hestitation.

Room Tip: Our room, No 1, was wonderful with plenty of space and very comfortably furnished.

It's not unusual, thankfully, to find good customer service in the West Country. However, Michael and Amanda offer exceptional service and so obviously enjoy what they do - it would be hard to imagine them doing anything but run a hotel! From the moment we booked we felt in very safe hands. The welcome in the car park, tray of coffee and fudge as soon as we entered the door, serves as an indication of the warmth and care they take with their guests throughout their stay. The Hotel is cosy, comfortable, relaxing and in keeping with a building of its age and character. The sitting room is beautifully furnished as are the bedrooms and we felt like were visiting friends rather than staying in a hotel.
Great breakfasts, and the evening meal we had there was superb. Very good portion sizes too - forget the diet! On another evening Michael booked us a table at the Royal Oak at Meavy - lovely food and atmosphere.
A great pleasure to stay there and to pass on an unreserved wholehearted recommendation to anyone who needs to stay in this part of the country. Lovely people and a lovely experience - enjoy! Sue & Bryn

Room Tip: They're all good but the Master is well worth the extra - some of the en-suites have showers rat...

My wife and I have just spent 2 nights at the "Harrabeer". Michael & Amanda (supplemented by son No2 due to Michael being ill) are exceptional hosts with nothing being too much trouble.
My wife received a voucher for her birthday (Buyagift.com) for a one night stay with afternoon tea, our daughter paid for us to stay a second night as a joint birthday present. Not wishing to travel too far we opted to make the short journey to Devon and stay in this outstandingly, beautiful area. Upon arrival we were greated by Michael and welcomed with a pot of fresh coffee, although we arrived earlier than expected our room was made ready in a matter of minutes.
The afternoon tea was more of an afternoon feast! including sandwiches, cakes, biscuits, cream tea - you never go hungry when staying here!
All the praise given in other reviews is well deserved, M & A are exceptional, friendly hosts to the point that my wife and I thought we were staying with friends rather than in a hotel.
Thank you both for a lovely stay.
