“Perfect peaceful get away (with a hot tub)”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 1, 2013

We booked Honeysuckle cottage for the Easter weekend and had a fantastic time.

Despite arriving early Karen let us into our cottage without any fuss and showed us how everything worked. There were two pieces of tasty ginger cake waiting for us as well as some basic kitchen essentials (milk, washing up liquid, dishwasher tabs etc).

Everything in the cottage was immaculate and it's extremely well laid out with the living room, decking and hot tub all looking out over the picturesque Otter valley. There is underfloor heating throughout making you feel warm and cosy and it would have been very easy to have spent the entire weekend indoors.

I'm glad we didn't though as Odle farm is perfectly located to get out and see Devon's sights as well as the spectacular south western coast. Indeed one of the many nice touches is that on booking you are provided with a list of places to see and places to eat based on genuine reviews from past guests.

There's no sense in repeating the recommendations in full here but our top tips would be:

1. If you are a couple book Honeysuckle cottage it's slightly removed from the other cottages and feels like your own little world. Sitting in the hot tub under the stars on a cold night was particularly enjoyable.

2. Canonteign falls are beautiful and make a nice walk

3. Walk to the Sidmouth arms in nearby Uppottery - the food is excellent and you will feel virtuous on the walk back!

4. Visit the coast, our favourite was Lyme Regis but there are any number of pretty seaside towns nearby

5. Cream tea at Otterton Mill - you're in Devon you are going to have to have cream tea and the portions here are enormous. It's worth investing a bit extra and having the savoury version as well.

I can imagine Odle farm is equally enjoyable with children or in a group as there is a large spa area serving the other cottages as well as a communal games room boasting a pool table, air hockey, and table tennis.

We would definitely stay again and one final recommendation would be to take advantage of the home made ready meals on offer if you have a long drive down to the farm. They were tasty and made us feel better about crashing out on our first night.

We arrived to a lovely lemon Drizzle cake and a very warm welcome from Karen's Mum who showed us around. Willow cottage (One bedroom dog friendly) was extremely clean and had views to die for. Our weather wasn't perfect but have to say very varied! - Sun/Fog/Rain/Sleet/Snow - all in a few days in March! The fog was unfortunate as I had really been looking forward to the beautiful coastal walk from Beer to Branscombe (which I'm told has amazing views) - alas, not in the fog, we did a mile and set back to Branscombe by car where our spirits were lifted by an amazing lunch in the Masons Arms. After another walk in the fog on Branscombe beach we headed back to our rural retreat and the hottub. There are walks from the doorstep at Odle Farm which we do intend to walk next time if we can tear ourselves away from the hottub! (Need more than a few days next visit). Sunday evening saw the snow come in and so we couldnt leave without a hottub in the snow looking up at the stars! We'll be back.

Room Tip: Willow Cottage has the best view from its private hot tub.

So me and my partner went away for a weekend break and from start to finish the service and experience was perfect.

I cant write one bad thing about the place, the booking service was so straight forward, the directions were spot on, arrival was so easy and the weekend was just what we both needed.

We stayed in Honeysuckle Cottage so had our own hottub, which we used every night even though it was a really fresh cold weekend it was lovely.

We visited Sidmouth for the day and took a long walk along the beach then visited the Christmas market. Then went to Beer the fishing village which I would highly recommend and neither places being that far away.

Had a beautiful Indian take away that was recommended to us, although very popular as we had a 2 and a half hour wait.

I can't wait to book and go back, just trying to decide if we would like to go in the summer this time - its a must its relaxing, quiet and the views are incredible. I couldn't have asked for anything more.

Thank you for your review, it is lovely to hear about the places guests have enjoyed visiting while staying at Odle Farm. We are so lucky to live in such a beautiful area ......and sharing it with others makes sure we don't take it for granted as they are always telling us how lucky we are! : )

We look forward to seeing you again........every season is so different, lambs are appearing in the fields at the moment and the dairy herds will hopefully be out again soon so the Devon "traffic jams" will be making us smile as they amble across the lanes at milking times!
Thanks again.

We have just got back from a wonderful 4-night break at Odle Farm. Our checklist had been.... inexpensive, rural with good walking, reasonable travelling distance from home on a Friday night and.... a private outdoor hot tub!
Odle Farm is a small collection of self-catering units and B&B set around the courtyard of a converted farm. The Farm is beautifully situated above the Otter valley and much of the accomodation has great views over the surrounding countryside. The Farm is not far from Honiton but the drive up the final track is a little narrow and windy in places - we didn't have any problems, but if you are an anxious driver in a big car who can't reverse, you may think twice!
We arrived late on a Friday night. Despite this, we had a warm welcome and were quickly shown around the cottage. There was some complimentary delicious ginger cake left for us in the kitchen as well as some milk in the fridge and a few sachets of tea/coffee to make sure we could survive through the night! We had come supplied with an Indian takeaway and soon found the kitchen to be well-equiped.
The cottage had everything we could possibly want. Everything was immaculately clean and the furnishings were of a high standard. The heating (underfloor) was set at a comfortable level and we didn't have to use the electric stove in the living room at all (despite fairly inclemant weather in January). The outdoor hot-tub was as great as we had hoped, and we had several lovely times slowly poaching ourselves in the bubbles while looking out over the valley and letting time drift happily by.
Everything was provided, from towels to washing-up liquid. The only think that caught us out was an absence of shower-gel and shampoo (I know.... It's not a hotel). This wouldn't normally have surprised me but given the comprehensiveness of everything else, I think they might offer a "toiletries package" for a small extra cost for those of us lazy enough to want more of the "Hotel experience".
Anyway, we had a truly wonderful time. We will definitely be going back. A warm welcome, great location, fabulous facilities and reasonable price... what more could we ask for?

Room Tip: Willow cottage - couldn't be better for 2 sharing.

Thank you for taking the time to write such a glowing review, its really appreciated and makes all the hard work worth it. We will look in to offering a toiletries pack as we do have a supply for the bed and breakfast rooms.

I also saw your review on The Candlelight where you had a meal on the Sunday night, thank goodness my recommendation was a good one as it is always difficult to know what people like ! I know we have never been disappointed when we have eaten there.

We are so glad you enjoyed your stay and look forward to seeing you again.

Glad to see so many great comments for Odle Farm. We have stayed there four times now and it has always been brilliant. The accommodation is lovely, with the hot tubs a lovely bonus. Saw my first shooting star in the hot tub drinking Champagne at midnight! Doesn't come better than that. Karen and her mum are really friendly hosts, the duck eggs delicious and the views over the Otter Valley are beautiful. Lovely place in a lovely part of the world.

We have stayed here twice. First visit was to Honeysuckle cottage which we loved, especially the lovely homemade cake on arrival, the hot tub and the great verandah overlooking the valley. Two years later we decided to return and enjoyed a very comfortable stay in Jasmine Cottage, which is very roomy for 3 people, Really well equipped kitchens, very clean cottages, friendly and helpful owners and great fun to be had in the recreation barn. Hot tub special at night under the stars, but equally fantastic on a sunny but frosty November morning. Real away from it all feeling in the beautiful Otter valley. This really should be a best kept secret !

We needed somewhere to stay overnight near friends who were visiting the area for the weekend.

I googled Upottery more in hope than expectation and we won the lottery.

This Farm Stayy with holiday cottages and bed and breakfast rooms is run by a charming family who seemed to have really thought about what makes for a comfy and pleasant stay.
Even though we were only staying for one night we were wwarmly welcomed with a tray of tea (or coffee) with fruit cake as well.

The farm is "out of the way" but only. 10 minutes from the A303. As it is high up and south facing
there are gorgeous views across the Otter valley. We stayed over on one of the coldest nights so far this winter and we were toastie warm as there is central heating. Our room had biscuits, tea coffee and hot chocolate. There were extra blankets and the large bath room had all needed for a quiet soak or a quick reviving shower.

Breakfast in the morningg featured the farm's eggs. And I wondered if the ducks in the pond might furnish a duck egg or two in the summer.

Naturally it was exceptionally clean and everything worked: plugs, sockects ....

Would we stay again? You bet your sweet life.
